How will a Bridge \m/ pickup compliment a 85/15 neck pickup?

Hey guys,

Sorry if this question sounds a bit noobish but I'm seriously thinking of throwing some money down soon on a core Custom 24 which as I understand come with 85/15 in both the neck and bridge pickup. I understand that they are somewhat low output pickups which I do believe I would like in the neck pickup as I like the tone of the 85/15 in the neck position with some dirt and clean.

My issue is I like to play a diverse range of music anything from blues to metal and am thinking having a higher output picku the bridge I really do like having a hotter harder edge sound in the bridge pickup I understand the \m/ are high output and might be a good replacement for the HFS. So I was thinking I may replace the 85/15 bridge with the \m/ after buying the CU24.

My question though is how will the \m/ sound when combined with the 85/15 neck pickup while having the 5 way blade switch set to the two pickups together in the humbucking and coil tapped positions?? Will they compliment each other still or will it sound dumb? Meaning I only really play in two positions?

Also am I right in thinking that if I want a bridge \m/ pickup that would be called a \m/ treble pickup not bass?

Yes, the bridge pickup is referred to as the treble pickup.

I think you may be pleasantly surprised by how hot the 58/15 bridge pickup can get. I get pinch harmonics and squeals with ease. I love the 58/15 set. You should definitely try them for a bit before you swap one of them out.

Good luck!

Oh, for reference, I am playing the 58/15’s in a Singlecut into an Xotic booster pedal, then into a saturated tube head with a power attenuator. Last night it was a Rivera KR7. I was ripping heads off in Tollywood (my music room). hahaha. The only one in the room was my cat, and she’s fine. This is Buttercup.

Live with the guitar for a month. I think you’ll be surprised by the pickups. PRS pickups also respond better than most to being raised or lowered, and raising or lowering the polepieces. While I replaced the pickups in most of my SE’s, I only replaced them in one core guitar, and that was a basket case brought back from the dead.

I'm assuming you meant the 85/15 pickups not 58/15? Cute cat btw. I do intend on trying them out for a while but yeah have a feeling ill want something hotter in the bridge.

Thank you, she thinks she’s a dog.

No, I meant the 58/15 TM pickups. Oh, but you have the 85/15s. Hahaha, my bad. Anyway, you’ll only know what you think after you try them out for yourself for a bit.

The 85/15 neck is nice and warm, splits well and has some heft to it. The \M/ bridge is an animal. It’s hot, massive and yet articulate.

I had that set in my CU24, but I swapped it out because it was too close sonically to my CE24 with Dragon 1’s. I wasn’t going to ditch the D1’s so those had to go.

I play a lot of prog rock and metal and have been debating trying out the \M/ pickups for awhile now. I haven't done it yet because the 85/15s are just so good. I have a set in a semi hollow CE24 and the 85/15MT set in a custom 24/08 and there's just nothing that this pickups can't do extremely well. I've had the DW CE24 as well as an Ibanez RG5160M with the Fishman Fluence modern pickups and they did do high gain tones better but they didn't have any of the versatility that the 85/15s do.
