How to determine body wood on PRS CE 24?

I'd like to get a PRS CE 24 in alder to round out the collection, and have found a 2008 model from a local dealer for sale. However, he's not sure what the body wood is exactly. It doesn't appear to be a maple cap as it's neither flamed or quilted, so the obvious (at least I think) choices would be either mahogany or alder. Anyone know how to determine the body wood type? Thanks!

Superb...just sent it off. Assuming it's alder, it'll round out the herd consisting of the CU22 and Korina McCarty rather well. Thanks!

Customer service has a great reputation for help!

Let us know what you find out. And if you get it, we're gonna want pics.

They stopped using alder on the CE's in 95 and solid mahogany in 2000. So unless it was a LE it should have a maple cap. There should be a MODCAT on a 2008 that will tell you the body wood.

I had a 94 CE that was mahogany.

Right. There was a shadowy time frame between 94-95 where they made the change over. 22's were mostly (if not all) mahogany until the 2008 run and, to my knowledge there were no 24's made with alder after the originals so the one the OP is lookin' at would be hog.

As per customer service it is indeed a 2008 alder body PRS CE 24. I pulled the trigger on it and it should be here on Friday. I'll add pictures once it arrives.

Learn something new everyday. I didn't know there were any alder CE's after '94. I'm fortunate to have a couple alder CE's and I really like their "snap." Enjoy! And pics!!
