How stable is a Tremol no?

I'm planning to buy a Prs Custom in the near future and I’m pretty sure that I’ll either get one with a PRS Tremolo or and Floyd Rose. The only problem is that I’m used to easily change Tuning so I’ll either install a Tremol No or block it so it’s down only with a mahogany block.

So is a Tremol No strong enough so I can drop all 6 strings 2 half steps in hardtail mode or would an wood block be better in this Situation?

Might be easier/better to just deck the bridge, still having down only. Just remove string tension and springs before adjusting the bridge screws, so as not to damage the knife edges.

Decking isn’t an option for me because it would probably feel weird. PRS Tremolos weren’t designed for that and if I would choose a Floyd Rose decking is totally impossible.

I've blocked a few Strats over the years and it works well. It always felt like it increased resonance of the instrument as well.

ESP Arming Adjuster!!!

You can adjust the back pull loading spring so tight it's like it's blocked. Then if you decide later you want floating, but where you can run your regular tremolo springs a little stronger for bends that don't dive the tremolo, you can. Awesome device for a tremolo for many more than one reason. Better sustain when not operating the tremolo, too!

My experience with a Tremol-no on my CU24 was not stellar. It worked as advertised but using the thumb screw to set then release the action didn’t remain consistent. It does not make a trem act like a fixed tail piece. I’d use a block of wood, too.

They are very touchy. You have to get it just right so that there is absolutely no friction, otherwise you have issues getting back to "zero".
