How long you've gone without GAS?

I could only go about 20 minutes without gas. As bad as a child with a sweet tooth in a candy store. I have reached a point where I believe my tonal palette is fully realized. My amps are mostly one volume, one tone with one overdrive pedal. And then my partner has to say to me, I don’t care if you get another guitar…………

I *really* thought I was done, have everything I could ever justify. The last guitar I bought was the Thinline, just over 3 years ago. But then just the other day, Moore Guitars sent out one of their emails, getting rid of some NOS, and there was an offer I couldn't resist - a new Maple board SE Silver Sky, for less than even the cheapest used ones are going for on Reverb. And WAY less than typical new ones, blowing away the recent 15% sale.
I honestly thought if I ever got an SS, it would be the Core model but this was too good to pass up, so here I am with my UPS tracking number...

I was intrigued by the addition of US parts to the S2 line this year, specially a Vela. My first S2, a SH Vela. That’s the last I bought. I look from time to time, but nothing gets me excited. In reality, I’d like to retire at 60, in three years. Guess I’d rather put the money to better uses.

It’s hard to resist browsing reverb when there are so many beautiful, toan-filled PRS in the world - probably take a look once a week. I think I’ll be happy when I’ve tried every possible PRS configuration of pickups, switching, neck shape, color, wood type, etc. Shouldn’t take too long! :)

Luckily, I have pretty much no desire to branch out of the core/bolt-on line (PS is too expensive, SE/S2 feel like a compromise) and I prefer the guitars I’ve tried that are 2020 or later - possibly something to do with the nitro finish and newer neck carves feeling more rolled. So that narrows down the field a bit.

I’ve kept the stable to 5 guitars and just swap out my least favorite when I’m feeling the GAS every 3-6 months - keeps the wife and wallet happy. As for amps and pedals, my Kemper killed any urges there 2 years ago, though I do miss the feel of a nice cranked tube amp every now and again.

I'm pretty content for a hot min but I have been pretty busy , 2 Gibsons , Guild , Ovation , DC22 , and a NF3 Swamp ash special I owned for a hot min all left the house , a Santana Retro , Studio 22 , CU24/08 , MEV have entered.
Likely need to move one or two to pay for my sins and then someone offers me a trade or something and I start again

I’m always tempted. It’s a curse but I’m sticking to three self-imposed rules that keep it in check. First, I’m not buying new. Period. Second, I always bring one of my own guitars when trying out a possible new (used) guitar. And the guitars I already have are so good that they almost always come out on top. Few things kill GAS as effectively as a direct A/B. Third, I have 8 guitars and that’s it. Don’t need more. Don’t want more. If I really want something new, then something old has to go.

I read a lot about gear but usually don’t buy anything aside what I really need.
But I do waste a lot of time reading about products and guitars and watching videos.
I “envy” people who play other instruments- for example you wouldn’t find someone having 10 pianos at home 🙃

I do have a friend who has two pianos at home. They cost more than all of my guitars put together.
