How do you sell your guitars?

Hello,

This is my first post here, although I have occasionally lurked around here for a long time, including the previous format site and also the old Birds & Moons site. I try to stay away because some of you are like crack cocaine pushers feeding people's habits! :D

Some beautiful guitars displayed on here, that's for sure and I have been lucky enough to acquire several great guitars myself, mainly but not exclusively, PRS Private Stock. I am now in the process off offloading most of my gear due to a trapped nerve in my left wrist which makes playing for any length of time uncomfortable.

So, I wanted to ask how you guys offload your guitars as you all seem to trade quite a lot. So far I have sold some through a dealer - but it hurts to see them then listed on their website at a much higher price! I've sold some on eBay as well, but that is a bit of a pain - I've just listed a bunch on eBay so hopefully I'll get some luck. I have mainly private stock guitars and similar (Custom Shop) and would appreciate any good advice on how best to sell this level of quality guitars.

I am based in the UK.

Thanks.

Reverb, The Gear Page, or Vintage Rocker. Check them out and see if one or more of those would work for you:)

Bit of an afterthought to original post, sorry, but how do you deal with shipping and insurance? In the UK, it is difficult to get insurance and UPS limit insurance on guitars to £1,000, so it's a bit of a risk when shipping Private Stock guitars. Any tips would be gratefully received as I am a novice at this stuff.

Thanks for such a quick response. Can I list on those from the UK? I am aware of them but thought they were US oriented. Will check them out.

Surely the trapped nerve can be operated on? I bet the cost of just one of those private stocks would cover the costs should you need to have it done privately.

I once had a trapped Ulnar in my left elbow. The arm hung like a dead fish. Playing guitar was impossible. Post op, it came good again. Not quite 100 per cent but I have my life back. And I can now play the guitar as bad as I ever did.

Let's not hear any more about selling your cherished guitar collection.

Get your wrist sorted out.

Damn - totally glossed over the hand issues. See a doc and get it fixed - don't give up on it! I'm having elbow issues myself (seems to be an epidemic in here lately), but hopefully it'll get sorted out. Lots of stuff to try before just living with it. Good luck with it!

Sell them? I just buy them....and when I do, it's usually VR or TGP but I've also purchased one that was on consignment at Brian's so that's another option.

Thanks for the messages guys. I have been offered an operation but there are no guarantees and I could lose my grip entirely, so it's not worth considering in my opinion. I needed a reason to sell as I have collected way too many over the years. Don't worry, I'm keeping a couple, at least!

I've sold 9 now and, after the initial wrench, I'm ok with it. It's quite liberating once you make the decision and it sure frees up some space. ;) I had a lovely flock of BRW Modern Eagles which were hard to let go, but there's no looking back now! I always fancied posting some of mine on here after seeing some of the beauties that go up, but I never got round to it.

That private stock 513 of yours is fantastic.

Thanks. Yeah it is awesome, I love that one. It's probably the hardest one to let go. Sounds as good as it looks too.

It's weird how you can get really attached to some of them and I was initially quite miserable at the thought of selling them. I found that once I made the decision, I was ok with it and became much more rational about it.

It's actually been very rewarding getting great feedback from the guys that have bought the one's I've sold so far. The guy who bought one of my ME1's said it was so good that it has cured his GAS (yeah, right!). I sold a custom shop Braz Strat and the guy who bought it took it straight to rehearsals and his band mates all said it was one of the best strats they'd heard. It's important to me that they go to a good home. It's it's like watching your kids grow up and go their own way!

I just wait for threads like this one to pop up and I reply with something like "Cool thread, man! I have a Les Paul Studio Fireburst with gold hardware to unload for only $700 and I could use some ideas because I hate eBay."

Then I just sit back and wait for someone to PM me. But, of course, this is just an example. Or is it?
