Our wedding will be at our little farmhouse in WV. It was built in 1939 and needs some TLC and sprucing up. Since it is a weekend place for us, we don't have time to maintain large flower beds. The previous owner had 2 really big ones right off of the back porch. without our constant attention, they quickly became overgrown with weeds and tall grass.

So, my project over the last few visits has been to rip 'em out and make room for new grass. There were lots of large rocks as a border for each one. All of these had to be dug up and transported to our growing dry rock wall. Then lots and lots and lots of weed whacking. We did save some of the rescue-able bulbs for a smaller flower bed, but the tall grass and weeds had to go. Then everything got tilled and raked. Finally, seed, fertilizer and straw.

I finished the second large bed this weekend. I thought you might enjoy seeing my supervisors. They are busy scarfing up mulberries about 30 yards behind me. You can also see the end of the growing rock wall...

Rain..........I took my little girl Kate to see Despicable Me 2. She loved it. And then we did the "Redneck Firework Tour"......We drove around my neighborhood for an hour or so & watched everyone shoot off their fireworks. The Nashville fireworks weren't supposed to start until 9:50 or later & she can't stay up that late (most nights neither can I) and with all the rain I wasn't even sure they'd be able to have the show. So we drove around during a brief break in the rain & watched some pretty impressive backyard shows!

Other than the time that I spent with my family, the highlight of my holiday weekend was the Doobie Brothers concert at Wolf Trap. The video linked below does not do the show justice (I wish that I had been close enough to shoot it). Tom brought Paul out for an extended jam. Hopefully, someone captured that part of the performance on video.

Since I started dieting seriously I cook a lot of food at once and my mom loses her mind when I take up the kitchen and smell up the house so in an act of rage and rebellion, I bought a nice Weber charcoal grill and decided to build an outdoor table for it so that I can do everything I need outside. The idea is to make an 8ft long table that will hold the charcoal grill inside of it while providing a nice workspace to do meal prep on as well.

Got pretty far in the process but since it was about 95 degrees out I decided to stop for the day. I have to finish attaching the table tops (it will have a table top on the bottom shelf as well), cut the whole for the grill since it will be suspended into the top table top, insert metal in the cut to prevent heat damage and lastly stain her so shes pretty. Not too bad although the cost of raw wood up here is insane - I could have probably built this cheaper out of SE's than what I paid for generic lumber.

I debated about using wood filler to cover the screw holes but since its going outside I think that would just be wasted effort so hopefully the stain is dark enough to make them look decent and rustic.

My wife is in a local production of Les Mis and July 4th weekend was opening weekend. Saw the show twice and went to a bunch of cast parties. I'll probably see it a couple more times before they are done. Good times.

I spent my 4th doing something that I am going to do a lot more in the future - go fishing with my child.

Here's a rainbow she caught "all by [her]self" on Independence Day.

Ditto - Tom's brought PRSh out the last two trips to wolftrap (at least).

I was on the lawn (which I next to never do) so I couldn't really see what axe Paul brought on stage. Sounded good (when he turned it up a bit)
