How big is the neck on the SE Hollow Body?

I just ordered a SE Hollow Body, and I was curious how fat the neck is? I want to be able to play jazz finger style with it, and I am hoping the neck isn’t so big that it tires my left hand out. I have a Nick Cantanese SE that has a really big neck that seems about equivalent to a Warmouth Fat Back, and I am hoping the hollow body’s neck is not that big.

I think it's wide fat, which is wide thin but 1/32" deeper. I don't like it as much as wide/thin, but it's about the same as my old Ibanez semi-hollow.

I was struggling with it big time, until I discovered that it had like 1/4" of relief. When I dialed that out it got more playable.

Sounds like the SE Hollow Body has a pretty substantial neck.

Shawn, I am of the "small hands" variety. Based on what I had read of the SE Hollowbody, I initially ruled it out as it's neck profile is reported as "Wide Fat" . But two things changed that for me. Both related to having a "brick & mortar" store nearby . My local Sam Ash has a HB Standard in stock, so instead of relying on the web reports, I paid a visit fully expecting to eliminate it from consideration....

The first thing is to (as a small hands guy) adopt a "Left Knee" playing position . (I always sit) as opposed to the universal right knee taught, even by guys I took lessons from. This is a more "classical guitar " playing posture. Guitar on the left knee, , 45 degree (or so) angle upwards on the headstock.. My sales guy Matt "Guitar" Erickson turned me on to that . He 's young enough to be my adopted son ! And the classical guitar guy I paid for lessons 20 years ago ... Did not show me that. Second, , use a strap

That alone, increased my fret-span by about a half inch or more. Way more comfortable. With an actual guitar in hand, and these techniques, I'm good to go for the "Wide Fat", at least on the SE Hollowbody..

My Fav neck profile is on my Brand "F" Classic Player Jaguar... 24 " scale length, Modern C neck profile. Slim by most standards. But the ability to actually fondle the guitar in question, and to employ the techniques showed to me by store personnel... Is a definite value add worth money (translation, I will pay them more than an on-line dealer, even one with excellent service like the tasty water dudes, whom I really like in Indiana ....

With the "Left Knee & Strap" technique , the SE Hollowbody is a "Go" for even small hands me.

BTW, this same store recently added a Bass player (Bass ???!) with hands about my size , and she's barely 5' 3" !!! How that works, I dunno ! :D

Hey man that’s good to hear. this guy I studied jazz with in the 80’s turned me on the the left leg thing, so I got that going for me. My hands aren’t huge. My palms are quite big, but my fingers aren’t super long. Maybe this is going to work out after all.

I can tell ya' this, today's wide-fat is not yesterday's wide-fat. My '95 CU22's neck is the main reason I bought it. It felt exactly like the carve on my '58 Les Paul Junior. Once they went to the "pattern" stuff, they "took a little off the top."

That’s great to hear Mark. I hope to have mine by Wed-Thurs. I can’t wait!

It's this big (or at least mine is):
