That is a Ukulele bass with rubber strings and a pickup. Sounds like an upright bass. I see some cheap China ones but they do sound good.

From the facts the might only interest me archive:

The inventor of the ukulele bass is David Gomes of the Big Island of Hawaii. David is a gentleman and a scholar and loves to experiment with builds which is how it came to be. I visit him when we go out there for vacation. David has been building for over 40 years.

I own two guitars and three ukuleles (no bass though) from him. Hawaiian slack key artist John Keawe plays his guitars.
