After seeing the Modcat thread, specifically the neck decoder:

I was wondering if anyone has comments on how Honduran vs. East Indian rosewood fretboards differ?

I am assuming you want to know the difference, tone wise?

I would like to know what the difference is, too. Also Macassar Ebony vs. Ebony.

I think any tone difference between Macassar and Gabon ebony would be very, very tiny. It's ebony's denseness that gives it the feel and tone, and both are very dense woods, to the point where both sink in water. The main difference is that Gabon (or Gaboon) ebony is pure black, and Macassar has figure and coloration.

In terms of origin, Gabon is from Africa, and Macassar is from Indonesia.

I have played both and couldn't tell the difference in a million years, but maybe someone else has a better ear than I do.

I can't hear or feel any difference between my Madagascar rosewood and Indian Rosewood fingerboards. I don't expect I would be able to differentiate between Honduran and Indian either.
