What's up kids? The wife and I bought our first house 4-5 years ago. The house we purchased was new. It wasn't very evident to us at the time that it was a blank canvas. Now years later we are just getting around to painting and such to make it feel more like a home. I have heard this is pretty normal. It seems I really need to be in the mood to tackle home improvement and it comes and goes in phases. A buddy of mine just sent me his old Nest after he got a new one. Maybe I will install that for my next project.

What about you? What projects have you completed or perhaps what are you looking to do?

In the spirit of it all I thought to share yesterday's art hanging. These were the first of anything to be put on the walls besides paint which happened just a few months ago. I have a BFA in printmaking and while I haven't made a print in a decade or more I still buy quite a few from my favorite artists in the genre. I have had these prints framed and sitting in a spare bedroom for ages. All of the rooms are still in progress but I thought it was about time to get some art on the walls. Here's everything we put up and there's plenty more to hang. Big thanks to Tammy Shea owner of Bella Framing who framed all of these and came over to assist with getting them on the walls.

Very cool Jesse! Nice spread! I'm diggin the Daniel Danger paintings. That blue is really very cool. I like that Ardbeg art as well! Oh wait... not sure if bottle design and placement is considered art... :dontknow:

We bought new and at the time allocated a small amount for builder additions: mostly ceramic tiles that I didn't want to do myself later. And we chose paint colors for every room - not shades of beige.

Then we did one room at a time: family room settled out in a couple of years; girls bedrooms; dining room became a music room; master bedroom then living room last. Then some stone work outside the house, which we did over three years.
By then it was time for maintenance so windows got replaced over three years. Roof got replaced. Then we built a simple library in the basement which has a corner for unloved guitars.
This year is a top secret upgrade to the music room.
After that maybe a new deck out back, but I might build a path to the river first.

Nice man. My wife and I bought our house a little more than a year ago. It's an older home (1941) but has had a couple stages of renovation in the last 10 years or so. We even liked the paint colors from the last owners, so we haven't had to do much at all. We did buy it with the intent of converting the garage into a music room, so that will eventually happen when the stars and finances align.

You got me thinking. We have a few more pieces of art we still haven't bothered to hang. I guess you do have to be in the right mindset for those projects. And for me, the mindset doesn't come along often.

I hung a couple of big mirrors (properly anchored in the wall) and I considered them both significant victories because I got them within 1/8" of level with little effort. I also played handyman and fixed a couple of the old door knobs, tweaked the fit of a few of the old doors, and I had to drill and dowel one door where the hinge had pulled out.

I did a chalkboard wall in the dining area:

Just sand that sucker down! Instead of repainting it you could just have margaritas.

We built new four years ago and it has been a range of projects, but this year we had outside projects completed. We had a shed delivered last week, so I can put all our junk in it and I can finally park in the garage! :biggrin:
