Just uploaded today.

I was hinting around about a son of Archon, and it looks like they made it.
I may have to get the smaller head to run through my new 2x12 Celestion Vintage 30 Avatar cab I picked up a while back.

Listening to the samples right now (mobile phone plugged into a mini-stereo - not ideal, but better than nothing!). I like the EL34 Combo sound, wish there was a EL34 Head version sound demo - the Head 6L6 sounds good, but not what I'm looking for.

EDIT: listening again, a bit louder. And listening to the video demo where he plays through the combo version, 6L6 and EL34 "side by side". Hmm, maybe I want the 6L6.

Gotta find a dealer offering these, see how much I gotta save up if I want to consider one...

I think I like the 6L6 better, as I tend to favor a more high gain sound.
Also since these amps do not have a gain knob like I am use to on all of my amps I own, can you dial in a high gain sound by cranking up the channel volumes and then have the master one down low to get that nice overdriven sound.

All of my current amps I have are way too loud for where I live, and it is nice to crank the gain up full, and have the master down low so I get the nice sound, but not make the neighbors call the police.

Going to inquire from my dealer what the 6L6 head goes for.

IMO, between turning up the channel volumes and making use of the 'Depth' knob, you 'should' get an overdriven sound fairly easily.

Sounds good.
The thing I like about my Blackstar ID amps and the Carvin V3M is the gain knob along with an overall master volume, and a channel volume.

I like lots of gain and sustain where you hit a chord and it is still ringing and feedback for as long as you want it too.

In the case of the ID:30 amps, I like the fact that they can be used with headphones (the bigger ID's can be ran through a mixer and then through headphones). It's a great thing to have when you're in a small space and don't want to annoy the wife/neighbors. I just wish the PRS amps had the same feature because they would be an insta-buy for me if they did!!!

The channel volumes are just gain controls with different names.

Not sure if you're kidding, but basically, all volume controls are in fact gain controls.

Gain doesn't = distortion. Distortion is the result of more gain than the circuit can handle without distorting.

Thanks guys for the info on the gain.
I have an email into my local dealer for price and availability.

I lean towards the 6L6 too as the tube emulation on my Blackstar amps has the most punch and low end.

Just get a Mesa Cab Clone and you can run any amp with headphones.

They're not expensive.

You don't need to have a speaker hooked up.

LIES!!!

No, wait...Les speaks the truth here. CabClone is a very good option for running any head w/headphones or straight to a recorder w/o a speaker.

It's interesting that they downplay the EL34 compatibility of the 100-watt head, which accepts those tubes without issue.

On an separate note, the 100-watter sounds great at low and middling volumes, as well as paint-peeling ones.
