Hi, my first post here. I'd appreciate some help and advice regarding a HBII that I've been trying out for a couple of days. The guitar blows me away in all areas except the electric tone. The piezo tone into an acoustic amp is stunning, leagues ahead of the tone from a solid body with piezos, and the playability build quality and finish are superb. What I am struggling with is a lack of bite or attack from the electric tones, and I'd like to hear what others feel about this. The bridge pickup seems dull and muddy and the neck pickup a bit honky. I wonder of this is a result of the hollow body. I can get some nice jazzy tones and the combination sounds are nice but I struggle to get a nice tone on overdriven power chords and rock/blues playing. I usually favour single coils, but have a number of guitars with humbuckers that I get on with - I prefer to lower output humbuckers. The pickups on this model are 57/08 which I believe are pretty low output/bright sounding pickups, so it is a little surprising to be getting the tones that I am.

If someone out there can shed some light on whether this guitar is a one off or if it's the way they are or if getting coil taps fitted would help ( i have a McCarty whose pickups sound amazing when coil tapped). I'd really love to make it work as I could really benefit from the acoustic electric combination.

Same issue...

Pentode - I just purchased a 2011 Hollowbody II myself with the 57/08's in it. Having the EXACT same issue..... What did you end up doing if you don't mind me asking? I really do not think I enjoy the magnetic sound of the pickups at all... I really don't. The attack is the issue that I can hear as well. The clean tone is absolutely amazing and incredible. The slight distortion sound is not good at all, clean is fine. I also own a 2011 PRS Swamp Ash Special and has the narrowfields. Talk about attack... It is just rough going from one extreme to the other. What did you end up doing? Thanks, any info would be awesome.
