I ordered a set of HFS/Vintage Bass pickups through a dealer in December, got them in 4 days. I ordered another set a few days later (in December) and am still waiting. The dealer said last week PRS told them it would be another couple weeks. They aren't listed on the website anymore either. Did they stop making the HFS?

Just guessing, but I bet they are using all available time on the winders for 549's (the 58/15's).

HFS/VB are great IMO.
Seem to be polarizing pups though as I see a lot of comments to the contrary as well.
Might have to start a poll on this...

At this point, I've been through every pickup made (almost) from 1982 through 2004. The pickup I swear by now is the HFS (or 85/15). If they don't have them already, I put them in all my PRSsss.

When they were stock everyone got them by default, so the majority of people we'd hear from are those who didn't like them and wanted something different.

I am one of those that don't care the HFS however I have found that if I use them in lower tuning they're not as harsh sounding and I do like it. I also found that when playing HFS guitars through a diffrent amp that seems to make a big difference too.

I use an old 5150 head which can be bright sounding anyway so it seems to make the HFS worse. So it may be the amp you choose makes the difference.

Definitely the amp plays a big part. I don't hear my HFS' as harsh at all. I use Boogie Mark amps and they sound amazing with those amps.
