Well you folks should know by now that I take my homespun projects very seriously, this will be no different, and I'm about to take you all along, every step of the way, for the ride thru the land of semi reckless lutherie.

Off to a decent start, still have to do the sides and edges, lotta work sanding, finish was actually pretty thick. I was always under the impression that PRS stained wood and applied a very thin clearcoat, not the case here, it wasn't even stained at all, two different layers of red and a clearcoat.

After I clean up all the residual red and smooth out any swirls from sanding, I'm going to have a long heart to heart with myself over what direction I want to take this color wise, and ponder my next dilemma.....

... What to do about this headstock PRS sig o_O .... has anyone ever removed one intact?

As I get closer to complete removal of the original finish I took the time to have a heartfelt conversation with myself about what direction this refinish is going and I have to say, it almost became a bitter argument. ..... good thing I wasn't out in public.

I could give it the natural treatment, a little dark grain filler to highlight the grain, satin finish, and done. Easy.

I could go dark, have to do a little research & studying on staining techniques, and hope the pitfalls aren't too steep. (Lil devil on my left shoulder: "Go for it dude!!, what could go wrong?")

The only other finish I'm considering is a little off the beaten path and might be a greater challenge than I want to attempt but would be pretty unique is whitewashed. Maybe too much for a novice refinisher.
