Henry Goldrich, Gear Guru to Rock Stars, Is Dead at 88

48th Street was THEE place for gear. If your favorite guitarist used it, you could find it there.
I use to go with my friends and kill an entire Saturday going in and out of the shops.
48th Street Custom was my favorite back then. They were ESP Guitars USA shop at the time. They would build you anything and had replicas of all of the Queensrÿche guitars, the Metallica guitars, and just crazy customs hanging on the walls.

Visited Manny's once when I was attending college first time in the mid-70s across the river.

We took the then PATH subway up to 46th ST, and walked the rest. Saw a smaller shop in the music district that displayed a "pre-CBS" '54 Strat that was a bit road-worn, but had a sale sign on it for $1300. Thought fast-forward to the year 2000 and wondered how much it would be worth then.

I didn't have $1300 on me, being a lowly college student.
