I have the opportunity to buy either a 2001 or a 2007 SC PRS, I have tried the 2001 and love it very much, but since every year PRS evolves with little improvements i wanted to know if some of you guys have experience with both and i should choose the 2007 if it has any advantages at all over the 2001.

Thanks.

Hi Nicholas - you are an Axe FX guy! Me too.

I think these constant tinkering changes are largely marketing to motivate people to feel like they have to trade up. I have PRS guitars covering about a 17 year time span and my very first PRS ever, a McCarty Soapbar still sounds fantastic and is in no way inferior to today's models in tone and playability imo.

A great guitar is a great guitar and that is about the synergy of the woods and the pickups. If you really love the 2001, just get it! ;)

I have a 2000 and a 2006. The 2000 is heavier and sounds huge. All else being equal, I'd take the older one.

Depends on the specs. Isn't 2007 when they split off into the SC250 and SC245? Both with some different specs from the original Singlecut...

But if you dig the 2001, I see no reason not to buy it.

I don't think you're going to find incredible differences between a 2001 and 2007. If you love the 2001, go for it. Either way, you can't go wrong.

Sounds like you haven't tried out the 2007, without doing so you have no reference between the two. I agree that PRS makes them better every year but a PRS in the hand beats buying an untested instrument any day of the week.
If you can put your hands on the 2007 and compare it to the 2001 you'll have your answer probably very quick.

Thanks guys, it's actually a 2000 model.

Here it is:

I could also buy this SC 58 striped for almos the same price. Would this model be a better choice?

Just about everyone will repeat something like "The one that feels and sounds right to you." ;)

If you can't try both and you know you really like the one you have tried, you probably won't be disappointed with it. If you buy the other untested and you can't return it then you may end up wishing you'd just bought the one you tried first.

I prefer the hardware and birds and top of the 2000 in your pic. I never liked the outline birds.

I have a 2006 SC (25" scale) and a 2008 SC245. I prefer the 245, but the SC is badass as well. I didn't like the stock pups in either, so they both have BKP CS now.

I'd have the Stripper in a heartbeat. It's a more midrangey guitar, but I prefer the sound to the older singlecuts. The stock pickups are way nicer as well, IMO.

If you already tried one and like it (it "spoke" to you), you should get that one.

Otherwise, get both and sell/trade/discard/mod-the-snot-out-of/whatevs the one that speaks to you less.

I own Qty 3 - 2003 Singlecuts. (2 Tremonti / Singlecut). Love these. Nice & Heavy. Awesome sound.

I have owned 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 Singlecuts. Sold them all. (245's not for me & 250 just felt light weight compared to my 2003 Trucks.

Then got a Singlecut Modern Eagle. Brazilian neck. Love this thing. Still have it.

I them bought another 2010 Tremonti Trem. This had a wide thin neck & I freaking love this thing.

Then got another 2013 Tremonti Trem made for me with custom neck profile. Priceless.

Now I just ordered the new Tremonti Baritone. Can't wait.

In summary avoid 2006-2008 in my opinion.

You may be the guy I need to talk to. I am caught between a SC594 and Tremonti guitar. What neck profile did you order? I have always preferred a thin neck.

To each his own. Looks like you don't like the weight relief.

I have a 2006 SC, a 2008 SC245 (my favorite) and a 2011 Tremonti. I love them all. The Tremonti is heaviest, but not the best-sounding. Of course the pickups are a big part of that equation.
