Hi Everyone,

I was hoping you could give me some advice. I've been playing for 3 years now (at age 50 : ) and really enjoying it w/lessons each week. Starting to make some good progress and want to move from my Fender Cyber Deluxe modeling amp to a real tube amp. At this point, I'm just playing at home . . . maybe down the road just some gigging with a few friends at home (and my wife would love a lower volume amp too). Through my research, looks like a low watt amp is the way to go and that you can still get some great tones from them.

Below are a few links to the music I play/working towards playing to give you an idea of the tones I'm shooting for:

(Cinderella Crunch Tone):

(Daryl Hall Clean Tone):

(Station - fairly new NYC band):

(Pat Bennetar):

(Slaughter - their cleaner stuff):

Would love any input as to an amp that would help me with attaining these tones. Not sure if a
PRS 2 Channel Custom 20 would be a good fit???

I play a BC Rich CJ Pierce Pro X Eagle Guitar -

Sorry for all the videos . . .

Thanks in advance for your time and advice.
Jimmy

You don't need a low wattage amp to get good tone at love volume ( but you can )
I like my amps in the 50-100watt range tho I rarely play over 60db ( talking volume ) at home ( I like the headroom and I believe bigger amps with there bigger transformers move speakers better )
I recorded this with my iPhone at 3am with my family sleeping upstairs

If you are thinking about gigging and jamming I am really liking my 2 channel H ( new would be 2 channel custom ) but a new Boogie MKV 25 might be just what you need :)
good luck in the search

Will you be using pedals, or going straight into the amp?

It matters. You can use lower volumes with a bigger amp if you rely on pedals for your tone, without much tone penalty.

Yeah, your amp is a great platform for pedals to vary your sound as much as you desire. Not that I wouldn't want you go buy a new Archon 25, but maybe save that for next Christmas. :D Be sure to also look at the Marshall DSL series and the new EVH 5150 lunchbox amp (it's not just for head banging). So many good options for low watt alternatives!

I'd get the Archon. They have good master volumes, and whatever wattage you want to live with would suit the tones in that series of videos you posted.
