Hello fellow forumites.

I recently acquired a sweet SE-30 amplifier head. I am looking to try different preamp tubes and needing to know which locations are
which.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Gracious!

I sent an email to PRS requesting not only that, but what each tube did so that I'd know what tubes to try where. They responded right away with all the details I needed. Here's the funny thing... I opened up the back and right on the chassis, it's clearly labeled which tube is which. So I would haven't known a lot of the info if I'd opened it up and looked, but the extra details were all I'll need. Big thanks to Matt for quick, detailed response.

You know, if they published these facts in the Schematics section, we wouldn't have to bug Matt about this kind of stuff. ;) Just sayin'...

If there was a manual to download for some of the models, it'd be helpful, too.

I downloaded the one for my DG30, and it's chock full of very useful info.

Agree, example being that a current model Tung Sol in V1 is a very popular thing these days. And it works great in other places as well, but NOT in cathode follower positions, where they flame out quickly and potentially with damage. The lowly Sovtek LPS seems to be a very good tube in the PI position of some amps, etc. The details of what each of the two sides of each tube does, are especially helpful when tube rolling.

It is also possible to buy both new and NOS tubes that have been tested so that both sides of a dual triode tube match as closely as possible, something that helps in the PI position and often in other positions as well.
