Ok guys...... I need some help here. I'm thinking of possibly ordering my first Private Stock and I'm trying to get and understand some info on the Santana MD model. From what I understand they come with active pickups? Also..... The MVC mini toggle switch pretty much splits the coils? Am I correct with all of that? So if you were to build a Private Stock Santana MD and use 57/08's in it would the mini toggle then replace the push/pull to split the coils? Or does the MVC mini toggle do something else as well meaning you would still need a push/pull? Please someone help me out with this. Thanks!

If you're ordering a Private Stock, you can specify what it is that you WANT, and they'll do it. In the PS world, rules are made to be broken. If, of course, it means a layer of bada$$ for your future guitar! The Santana model specs can be altered any way you want. You can have active or passive, one, two or three pickups, paint it, stain it, whatever, man. This is where your creativity gets to have fun with what the Santana MD model could become. Have fun with that.

Thanks for the quick response ViperDoc. I understand that I can do pretty much whatever I want to the guitar in the Private Stock realm. I guess I'm really after info on the MD's electronics themselves. Like.... Does the MVC just split the coils or does it do other things as well? Will it work with 57/08's? Do you need to have both the MVC and a push/pull to get he best out of the guitar if I ran the 57/08's? I'm lost here, lol.

The MVC switch engages a tone circuit known as the Mastering Voice Control pot--a center-notched active tone control that appears to provide anything from tele-like single-coil tones to metal gain tones. I don't believe it splits the pickups. You would want either "Signature electronics" added (individual coil split switches), a 5-way blade with various coil-split/series-parallel options, or a push/pull or push/push pot for splitting both pickups simultaneously or individually--whatever you wanted. Here's a link to a McCarty II that has the MVC embedded. It's a third party review, but has some info on what the circuit does.
