So i live up in alaska so we dont have ny guitar centers here. howeverm i was just down in pheonix and bought a few PRS's and then when i got home i had them send me another custom 22. I really like the custom 22, the color is beautiful. But it just looks like it was a pre owned guitar, and though they gave me a killer deal on these guitars because i bought the store out of their real PRS's, i still feel like i should have gotten exactly what i was told it was. It was missing its hang tag and all the case candy, they had lost the Artist case so they just gave me a regular PRS case instead. All around i'm pretty dissapointed. I have never gotten a PRS that i had to fully set up before i could play it. EVERY note on this guitar buzzed, and the bridge anchor screws look like they where adjusted with full tension on the strings witha screw driver that was much to small. making little shards of the gold sick out and what not. After i got it adjusted, swapped the pickups ( not a big fan of dragon 2's, i guess they do aloright but i wanted to put my number 10's in. so i did all of that. My friend came over and played it, and yeah it plays great now that i adjusted the bridge and truss rod. but it just looks used. And the whole not having the hang tag and paperwork thing to me made me even more suspicious. After having that guitar, i have found its not a bad idea to have a slightly used PRS, I am always afraid to bring mine to shows or even out of the house because i want them to stay in mint condition. I have decided i basically want a custom 22 with a brazillian rosewood fretboard. if you look at guitar centers used grear they have a few McCarty's that say they have rosewood necks. I just dont know how to spot the difference between the IRW and the BRW. I looked on ebay, and all over the prs website. i searched the fourm a bit (the search function doesnt seem to work worth crap on my computer. So far i know that in 1999 into and a little bit into 2000 they made 250 McCarty's with BRW Necks and Fretboards. Was that the only time that they did this? are these the only ones that have the BRW necks, besides private stocks? Is there anything that sticks out about them? do all the ones with BRW have birds or did they come with moons too? where there any other times that there where runs with full brazillan necks?
Do you think it is worth it resale value wise to go for this ME-1? they say its a 10/10 and has all of the paperwork etc. Where as the 1999/2000 McCarty's they have that say they have BRW necks do not seem to have the signed and numbered back plate. (though i do have a few signed back plates, if i could figure out what number it is i guess i could just write it in
) The 1999 McCarty's with the BRW necks are going for about $2300.00 which seems like a good price. and the ME-1 is $4500, which also seems like a decent price. Whhere do you think these guys are going to be at value wise in the future, and do you think it would kill that value if i sent the guitars to PTC to have The necks reshaped to Standard/pattern regular? I was also thinking about having a trem put on them. I just have rather small hands i and i have fallen in love with the standard neck on my custom 24.
Oh, and if i do go for the big bucks and get the Modern Eagle,
I have been offered an artist 1 in mint condition for the same price? Obviously that doesnt have the neck i wanted but it seems like it would go up in value alot more, and i guess it could replace my Custom 24 which i think i could still return and i could get the BRW McCarty, Though i really do not want to part with my Custom 24 25th anniversary. I just put a set of metals in it and it sounds delicious.
Thanks for the help guys. the sooner the better!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
