Hi all,

I m David from France.
I would like to buy a PRS SE custom 24 with Pickups 85/15 "S" but i have also seen the 35th anniversary model and now i m a little confused for 100€ more... because i v not tried this guitar with the TCI pickups...

It will be a second guitar more versatile than the one i have for metal stuff (ESP eclipse e-ii).

I need your advise.

Sorry with my not perfect english ;-)

Regards

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure the TCIs pickups are just 85/15s pickups with the TCI treatment. The other differences are the 35th anniversary has the mini switches for coil tapping, abalone birds and a different top carve. I own a 35th anniversary SE and I highly recommend it, its a killer guitar.

ok thanks guy for this info... so what is the TCI treatment?
I m sure it's a killer guitar but can we play also some hard:metal stuff with this model?

I don’t really know the specifics on TCI so maybe someone else will chime in about that. It can definitely do metal, depending on how heavy you like to go you might need to replace the pickups but you can definitely get by with a high gain amp or modeler.

yes ok , i already have an amp who can do this , it's a PRS MT15 and it works like a charm ;-) with my ESP eclipse e-ii
So,you think that i shoul buy the anniversary model instead of the "basic" SE custom 24? the difference in the price is justified?

For me I really like the mini switches, birds and black gold finish with the natural binding so the price difference was worth it. I’m sure the normal se custom 24s are built just as well so it really just depends if those extra features are worth the money to you or not.

Welcome, @Dav34 !

In short, the concept of TCI is tuning the pickups for the best, most musical response in the model guitar in which it’s designed to be used. I don’t know what they do, but the general opinion of several players here who have access to otherwise identical guitars with both original and TCI pickups has been very positive towards the new versions. Oh course when you’re talking about sound, beauty is in the ear of the beholder, so that may or may not be the case for everyone. The important thing is that no one thinks they sound bad!

And don’t worry about less-than-perfect English. I assure you that your English is far better than most of our French!

I'm pretty sure Dylan (Talks Tone) disassembled a TCI pickup. No I cant find the link now, but he reported it was a conventional pickup.
