I need an F hole PRS. My 3 choices right now are going PS, a Walnut semi hollow LTD or buying back my very first CU 22 semi hollow LTD. (maple Charcoal Quilt top)

Someone MUST have both the Walnut and earlier maple topped ones. I cant find any decent clips of the walnut version, never mind any comparison clips between the two. Another big minus for the walnut is the "pattern" neck carve, but if it sounds unreal, I could probably learn to live with it. Please someone give me a tonal comparison! Also, is the construction methods the same on both? They mention a "carved from the inside" top on the walnut version. Was the maple one done the same way? I could also go private stock, but in all honesty, I am downright afraid to go that way right now. To many disappointments. I am not seeing many of the walnut versions left, so if i want one, I have to move quickly. There is a return policy on the ones I am looking at, so I could always go that way to check one out for myself, but I hate to do that unless I am 95% sure I am going to keep it. Help!!!

Oh man, one of these will be my next guitar... So it is written, so shall it be done.

I vote Walnut. You have several lovely guitars similar to the CU, and you've obviously done (and knocked out of the park) the PS route - so why not try something new? I played Markie's and fell in love with it. I cant say I can compare it to the other two models but I can say coming from someone who has owned mostly mahogany and maple guitars that there was a very nice uniqueness about the Walnut son that I enjoyed greatly. That and its a beautifully stunning wood to me.

That walnut guitar is sick. Should try one out for sure.

Thanks guys. Can anyone email or PM me what a fair "street" price is for a new one?

MAP is around $4599. Since they're limited, I'd say within a few steps of that should do ya!

Hmmm. That really makes me start thing about a PS. I was thinking they actually sold in the mid to upper 3s. Does anyone know if the construction method is different than on the Maple capped version? Those sold for mid 2s to 3K new. Is it just the slab of walnut you are paying 1.5-2K more for? If so, that does not work for me. I really wish someone had one of these in stock locally I could try.

I do not currently have a CU22 semi-hollow Tag. I do have a Walnut Ltd. Having had both, I would think the Walnut will lend itself more towards your desired sound......

Uggh! Just when I was pretty sure I did not want one. Thanks Markie! Now would be the time To check one out. I have my first CU 22 LTD in my possesion for a week or two. I could A/B them. Does anyone know about the construction? Are there differences, or is it just the top? If I went PS, I would probably go with a Brazzy or ebony fingerboard and McCarty depth body.......10th anni headstock eagle,,,20th anniv neck birds.... maple headstock overlay...artist 3 purfling.....pau side dots...natural color...... :D Hmmmm....

Not enough to completely sell you on it but I do remember the construction being different on the Walnut LTD - something about them being routed on the inside changed the resonance and sustain of em which was a difference from the other runs.

Fueling the fire!!!

It would be really interesting to get them side by side. I have my old one in my lap right now, and its carved on the inside all around the F hole, but then seems to be flat deeper in. I wonder if the Walnut is carved all the way around. That WOULD change the tone and response! Then again, maybe its the same. Its amazing no one on here has both! Here is my old one I am checking out right now. Killer quilt on this one from the Moss man. Great bookmatching for a non PS. Hmm...great bookmatching even FOR a PS! Great job PRS. :congrats: Nice chunky WF on it too, and the action is microscopic!

I hope you won't mind if I interrupt your thread to kick myself publicly one more time for letting my CU22 SH Ltd. go.

Dont feel bad Les. I have to kick myself twice then, as I let two of them go.

It was already my plan to carve my name into my future semi-hollow trem... this just confirms it.

They really are such great and unique guitars. The one I have here is blowing me away. (The one I got from Moss) I set it up myself, and the action is stupid low, without a buzz ANYWHERE. My old teal black artist 3 semi hollow that Markie owns or owned had action like this when I had it. KILLING!!! Your fingers will never get tired, and it has 10s on it. Pure butter. I am HURTING to put one of the Walnuts up against this side by side. If it sounds better, it will be MINE!!! MINE I TELL YOU!!! MMMWHA HAHAHAHAHA!!!!
