Greetings everyone! Glad to join the forum! I currently own only one PRS, a DGT Goldtop. I previously had a CE24 and a Mira that I both sold. The DGT is a keeper!
I own many Gibsons and Fenders and a few other brands sprinkled in. PRS’s are superior quality to most of the other brands.
The only negative thing to say is that most PRS’s do not have a distinctive voice. They seem to be better versions of Gibson’s or Fender models. I haven’t tried all models but those that I have tried fall into this category.

Let me know your thoughts?

Welcome guitarman430! Good to have you on board (but don't you be blasphemin' in here) ;~)) If you have any music to share with us, you can do so in the Studio & Stage section. Cheers~

Welcome guitarman430. I can’t tell you how long we’ve waited for you. We were on quite a roll for a while, and things looked good for at least guitarman500 and then the pandemic hit. Needless to say, we’ve been stuck on guitarman429 since 2021!

Pandemic was 4 years ago. Not sure what took you so long, but glad you’re finally here!

I get the exact voice I want on my PRS through either my Louis Tornado, Louis KR12, or 50 Fender tweed pro custom build. To me the guitars do have their own sound.

I have to agree that the build quality of PRS guitars (including my SE's) is superior to many (but not all) other guitar brands. Some drastically so and in a few of the higher end models of certain brands I've been sorely disappointed in what I thought should be a feel in my hands that was lock stock and barrel above my least expensive SE. And I couldn't wait to put them back on the wall. But there were also a few that made me shiver with delight at the mere touch of them. Overall though, I find PRS is a far more detailed instrument than just about any other brand.

As to the sound, I find that PRS takes a bit of time to find that hidden (to me anyway) soul inside them. I never test play a guitar with anything but an amp in the store, I only tweak mildly the gain and channel controls, and I do the absolute best I can to keep the settings as equal between guitars as humanly possible. In fact, I try to use a modeling amp that I'm very familiar with (Katana 50) as a bit of a control experiment that allows me to hear what my fingers are bringing out rather than get crazy with effects that can bury my personal failings and limitations. And I play only certain passages and licks (I have several test pieces that I use just for that purpose) that keep the tests fair. And I'm no stage pro so If I like what I hear coming out of a guitar, for me that says something special with that particular axe. Plus I try to gauge responses from staff and customers, and if they are attentive and somewhat approving I tend to measure that as a favorable response as well. Not that I seek approval from other players as a guide, but it's a definite indicator a lot of the time. And thankfully it's been quite a few years since anyone turned their nose up at what I play haha. I know it doesn't take me very long to discover whether or not I have a like for a machine that will tempt me to consider buying it.

In a nutshell, that's why I have the four PRS guitars (just a smattering by the standards of many of the members here) that I do and only one other. There's a few guitars in my wish list that I haven't had the opportunity to properly test yet, but they aren't what most might think, with the exception of that one beast I spoke of in a recent "other brand" thread. And until I spy one that is exactly what I want as far as first look appeal, I'm not even taking it down for a closer look.
Just my $0.02.

Welcome. I’ve found, on the ‘distinctive voice” thing, that PRS guitars let my voice be the distinctive difference. They inject their sound, it just isn’t a sound that leads you into playing a certain way. I’ve come to like that.
