Hello all,
first post and wanted to say hello. I've been playing guitars for many years, started with a Harmony Rocket in grade school and progressed to a Tele in college and then a Strat. Most recently i wanted that "vintage sound" to play some old bluesbreakers, cream, etc and picked up an Epi LP. While it is a decent guitar (needed a fret level bad) the local luthier had a PRS custom model (not sure which) and told me it was the best guitar he ever played. Well we had been talking about a Warmoth build but his comments made me start looking at PRS. While a new core guitar is out of the budget right now the new CE, S2 and used cores may be do-able.

Wanted to know if you all could refer me a primer on these models (beyond the CE has a bolt on neck and the others don't) and educate me as to any particularly good models for general classic rock stuff from Cream, bluesbreakers to Eagles, outlaws and even Grateful Dead - if such a model exists!

Thanks for your thoughts.

Well if it's a Custom, it's either a Custom 22 or a Custom 24, and they're great guitars. I have several core models as well as SEs, and you certainly can't go wrong with a SE, S2, or used core Custom 22 or Custom 24.

They just revamped their SE lineup and added an SE version of their vaunted 85/15 pickups into some of the models, so that's the way I'd lean. Perfect for classic rock, I would think.

I find the 57/08's dark which is awesome for the hard rock that i like to play. The 53/10's I have in my PS P22 are much brighter and i feel lends very well to blues and a good bright crunch sound.

As far as I am concerned ANY PRS can play what you are looking for !!!!
These are Core models
Customs - The original classic PRS thinner body 24 or 22 frets 25" Scale trem or stop tail bridge multiple neck sizes
McCarty - Lots of different models including the new 594 also refers to a slightly thicker body ( McCarty thickness )
Single Cuts - SCT , McCarty , SC245 , SC250 , SC-58 25" and 24.5 in scale 22 frets trem , stop tail and 2 piece bridges
IMHO Unique PRS models
513 - 25 1/4 scale 5 pickups 13 sounds of PRS goodness
408 , Pauls guitar - one of my favorites best pickup splitting ever !!!!

There are many more I will let other fill in

Check out the Vintage Rocker Forum and the PRS Forums lots of good deals on used and a source for even more info also lots of great deals on these sites
