For me it's been the same for about 25 years now. I don't agree with zakk wylde much but on this subject I cannot disagree.

My vote is Black Sabbath-Sabbath bloody sabbath. 3:20 (or so) in and Ozzy says "where can you run to" etc.

What's your vote folks?

Best wishes to all and stay safe. :D

My favorite heavy riffs:
Walk - Pantera
Dogman - King’s X
Albatrosse - Corrosion of Conformity
Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck - Prong
My Own Summer - Deftones
Spit It Out - Slipknot
Freedom - Rage Against The Machine
Oblivion - Megalodon
South of Heaven - Slayer
War Machine - Kiss

Sabbath - Into the Void

This song freaking exudes heaviness. The intro is a serious grind, then the groove kicks in with a guitar riff and funky drum beat that was way ahead of it's time. Favorite Sabbath song of all time. If the Grim Reaper had an intro song, this would be it.

War Machine - Kiss

Honestly, the first one that popped into my head. Drop it down on a 7-string, and it's gloriously heavy.

Excellent pull from that album!

There can be only one............

Just watched a big chunk of this the other night when it was on Sony's movie channel.

I'll add...

The Beautiful People - Marilyn Manson (especially w/John 5)
Strange Ways - Kiss
Murmaider - Dethklok
Noncompliance to Astm F899-12 Standard - Carcass

C'mon people....
It's the one in Night on Bald Mountain.

Fun fact:

The demon on the top of the mountain in Disney's Fantasia
during the Night on Bald Mountain sequence is Bela Lugosi.
They had him stand on a chair and move to the music,
filmed it and then animated the sequence to duplicate
his movements and facial expressions.

OP for the win! That's mine as well, and has been for 47 years!

And, while you asked for "the" and some are making lists, if I made a list of even the top 10, it would have at least 3 more Black Sabbath riffs on it, because BLACK SABBATH!

Boogie Shoes - KC and the Sunshine Band

Ok, seriously... :p

Beethoven’s 5th Symphony in Cm

Otherwise, I was 11 years old when I first removed a vinyl LP from a black and purple album cover, dropped the needle to hear a hacking cough and then a guitar like nothing I ever heard. “Sweet Leaf” was my intro to heavy music, and remains my most vivid memory of thunderous guitar.
