What are you all using for strings? Used nothing but the PRS 11's with wound 3rd, just wanted to try something else just for the fun of it. Was thinking maybe a non wound 3rd but open to anything.

Jamie and I are on opposite sides of the G string! I like D'Addario 11s with an unwound G (with piezo), and standard 10s without piezo. Bending that wound G is too far from my muscle memory on every other guitar I have.

It's a little thinner, but not by much (to my ears). It's a fair trade-off in my book.

Yes, it's thinner. Too thin for me.. So for me, 10s w/a wound 3rd are a very fair compromise over the 11's., and an improvement over 10s w/a plain 3rd. My girly hands cannot handle the 11s… ;)

Oh Crap! That mental picture is burning my mental retinas!

That's why you're not supposed to imagine it until they answer - you don't want the wrong imaged burned it because then you'll end up seeing BOTH OF THEM!

Or would that be all four of them?

This is why I dropped out of proctology school.

really? I thought it because your fingers were too short.... :vroam:

On HB's with piezo I go with 11's and an unwound G as well. Don't find the wound G adds much tonally honestly, and I greatly prefer the added bonus of it not affecting my playing as I do find bends with the wound G on the 11's a bit odd. Guess as stated above it's a muscle memory thing, seem to be okay with anything from .09's to .011's but the wound G throws things off! lol :)

Thanks for the replies. I think i'm going to try 11's without the 3rdW and see how it goes. Then maybe the 10's if i don't like it. Agree about the bending, it's a *****..

I use Elixir 10's / 11's on everything. Depends on what I'm stringing. HB was always 10's.

Hollowbody SC spruce here.

Snake Oil .011s, unwound G. Those are pretty much my standard strings on most of my guitars.

For me, the wound G string in the stock .011 set sounds way different than the other strings when playing with the magnetic pickups. That's much more of a deal breaker than the difficulty of bending -- the wound G is certainly harder to bend but I can manage it OK for what I want to do on this guitar. If bending is going to be a big part of what I want to do in any particular context, I'm gonna pick up my vintage Les Paul or Tele, both of which have .010s.

The wound G does sound better (read: more like an "acoustic") when in piezo-only mode, but that's an option I rarely use, and when I do, I'm not looking for an especially authentic "acoustic" sound. If I want that, I just pick up an actual acoustic guitar, knowwhattimean?

So, basically, I see it as a bit of a tradeoff. You do what works for you, based on what you most want to get out of the guitar. Worth trying all the options here, as (relatively speaking) strings are cheap!
