Well, not really versus...has anyone compared the two? I've got an HB1 with piezo, and I really love the guitar...love the piezo and the ability to blend the sounds. Part of me looks at the p22 and says "I've got the piezo thing covered." another part says, "solid body...and you know you need another guitar!" I can imagine some differences, but would love to hear from people who've had both in their hands.

Markie and I did a side-by-side with a Spruce HB and a Private Stock P22 through a full-size acoustasonic amp.

it was very difficult to tell the two apart. No one could definitively point out the differences but we agreed that the P22 sounded a little more like an acoustic - which probably has more to do with the improved Piezo system from LR Baggs.

We didn't compare the magnetic side.

I didn't realize the P22 had a new and improved version of the Piezo. Will the HBII be getting the newer Piezo system in the future?

I have both. My P22 has a maple neck. Although my HBII is from 2007, the piezo was replaced by the PTC a couple of years ago. I cant say whether or not it is the most current Bagg's system, but i really don't hear a difference. I do feel that the HBII sounds better with 11's than it does with 10's.

Magnetic pickups are purely a matter of taste. I use Miras in my HBII. Havent swapped out the 53/10's in the P22 yet but i'm getting close to swapping in a Grissom bridge.

Here are a few things to consider:
- HBII is around 6 pounds, P22 is 8+
- HBII doesn't inherently come with a coil tap, but the PTC will install an extra mini toggle
- if neck carve is your concern, consider an older HBII to get a wide fat. Ironically, the pattern carve series doesn't bother me on a maple neck

Or a separate push/pull so you can split each individually and not drill new holes (PTC did this for me and LOVE the full neck, split bridge sound!).

I realize that the new piezo is a smaller design but I'm wondering if there is any difference tonally?
