Back in March, I saw my all-time favorite band The Summer Set for the seventh time. I told one of the band's guitarists, Josh Montgomery, that I mastered the first half of the According to You solo and, half joking half serious, I told him I could probably kick his guitar playing hind parts. The next day, I realized that Josh was probably going to question me over whether or not I could actually outdo him. From that point up until the night before I went to Warped Tour, I strained my fingers to the point where probably could be thrown out the window. When I went to Warped Tour, I asked Josh if he remembered when I told him I could probably kick his guitar playing hind parts and he said he did. I told him with absolute seriousness right in front of my best friend and his bandmates, "I think you can throw probably out the window now." He proceeded to ask me if I wanted to have a guitar-off with him and I said yes to it like it was a no-brainer. It wasn't because that it happened in front of other people that I said yes. I wanted an excuse to bring my guitar down to a show and show him what I got as a guitarist. Granted the way I made it happen wasn't the best way to go about it, but I finally have a shot at playing for him.
If you think about it, Josh is doing for me what Santana did for Orianthi. Santana inspired Orianthi to pick up an electric and then invited her to bring her guitar down to a show in her native Adelaide, Australia a few years later. In Josh's case, he made me want to pick up an electric and advance my guitar playing and now I'll be going to battle it out with him the next time The Summer Set headlines and plays a show in Maryland. Basically, I'm going to battle it out with Josh with my PRS SE Orianthi strapped to my shoulder onstage during the show while everyone in the crowd and the rest of the band watches me try to outdo him. It's most likely going to take place in the spring. There's a guy out in Texas who played onstage during a Summer Set show but he was taking over for Josh. Here's a video of it:

I'm actually friends with the guy who took over for Josh and he told me what it was like to play onstage at a TSS show. I have no idea how I'm going to feel when it comes time for me to go to battle with Josh.
It's kind of strange that I'm going to battle it out with Josh because he's the one who made me want to pick up an electric. But then again, my playing style was heavily influenced by Orianthi.
I'm not sure what the outcome will be, but I'm hoping for the best.
