Have wide thin neck profiles gotten...thicker?

Hello!

I have a 2014 SE Cu24 (MIK) and have been playing around with more recent MII models. The newer SE Customs--particularly the Cu22 semi-hollows--feel noticeably chunkier on the neck, even though they're listed as Wide Thins. The shift in feel is similar to going from a strat to a tele.

Is this difference in neck profile (even though they're all called "Wide Thin") a known quantity?

Thanks!

I have an SE SAS with a W/T and it feel full to me as well...I kinda like it tbh...I think im one of the few that genuinely likes all the profiles PRS offers...im more into the 25" scale that brought me here lol

My haptic experience is: It depends on the fretboard radius (and thickness).

Back in the days, around 2001, the CU24 of a friend stopped my demand of wanting to own a PRS. WT profile, too flat for any comfort and the strings felt like the wire of an egg cutter.

A decade later, I purchased surprinsingly a PRS, seductive 513s, their Pat.Reg. at the time and it was comfortable to play as of the first touch.
The same with Wide Fat.

2016 I bought a SE Mark Holcomb with Wide Thin but 20" radius. And absolutely no worries.
2020 I ordered a luthier made guitar combining WF with 20". And that whole neck feels bigger than ordinary Pat.Reg. or WF.

If the newer ones are Indonesian, there are bound to be some differences in the neck carve. My older Korean SE’s seem to have slightly more shoulder than my SE SAS. Remember, different factories.

Gotcha. That makes sense!

I saw a good number of posts about the SE SAS where people were saying that the W/T on it felt chunkier than the old US W/T or the current Pattern Thin. There may be something to it. There were quite a few people making that claim and stating they liked it better.
