Oh yeah! I’ve got one… but it ain’t black no more.
Yes, there were Bernie’s in black. Don‘t recall if it was a limited number, though. I remember loooking at them on Sweetwate’s website.
Yes, I've also seen them used on eBay or Reverb in black.
Some people say the black ones sound slightly different because they lack the thin veneer of flamed maple glued onto the body, which some people say dampens the tone slightly.
I dunno if that's always true or not, but I had three SE Singlecuts, two with flame tops and one painted solid black.
The black one was my favorite.
Great deal!
Flower Power?Oh yeah! I’ve got one… but it ain’t black no more.
That was a worthy project!Oh yeah! I’ve got one… but it ain’t black no more.
Totally. I doubled my losses on that project. That was a worthy project!
In my defense your honour...Seconded.
Surely not with the PRS tonewood veneer.
And a great pops. Hang on, he stole her orange amp and he’s giving her a 10w Fender. I recind that compliment.
Well I'm sure the Bernie fans among us would love to see some photos and hear more about it!She arrived about an hour ago.
Been all this time setting her up as was awful.
Bridge pup ring was installed backwards meaning the bridge pup was at a severe angle.
Strings were...well not sure what they were tbh but in the bin they went.
Action was ain't no mountain high enough!
However once more to my liking with new set of Slinkies it rings like a bell!
Really resonant and cuts through steel type sound but clean and incisive.
Definitely way different to anything else I own.
Battery for the EMG pups was where I thought it would be and looks like a fairly neat job with it surrounded by foam so it doesn't move and soldering all looks clean.
Been a long day so a NGD thread tomorrow with pictures.
Dang...that's tasty! So the whole guitar is black.I dont think I need to create a new thread as it should now be obvious this is a NGD for me...lol
Going to play with setup a little more later today, may need to tweak the truss rod a little.
But for now here are some pictures.
Not in bad shape considering.
And even the little Fender 10w Frontman starter amp that came as part of the deal sounds decent...lol.
You need that extra thick body to get that LP sound. The Bernie has it.Great guitar and great deal!
I think some of the SE245 derivatives, especially the Bernies and the 245 Soapie are some of the best deals on the planet.
There was a run of European Bernie’s with real 57/08’s in them. Now that would be a keeper!I don't know if changed pickups necessarily devalues a Bernie. I like to start with stock just because it's a clean slate no one has messed up yet.
But the Bernie is one guitar that REALLY BENEFITS from a pickup swap.
Those Korean made 245 pickups they came with sound OK but not many professionals would gig with them.
Totally "Student Edition"...which is what SE stands for,
Bernies are my favorite PRS guitars tho. After a pickup swap.
Those are what are in two of mine. They're my favorite PRS pickups. There was a run of European Bernie’s with real 57/08’s in them. Now that would be a keeper!
What strings do you use in your Bernie's?Those are what are in two of mine. They're my favorite PRS pickups.
I use D'Addario XL 10 - 46 Nickel Wound on my guitars that I bend strings on. Play the blues on.What strings do you use in your Bernie's?
The latter set is what I put on yesterday, Ernie Ball Slinky 9-42.I use D'Addario XL 10 - 46 Nickel Wound on my guitars that I bend strings on. Play the blues on.
And that's the way I play my Bernies and CE22's.
But I use 9 - 42 on one and that's nice to go to too.
