Has Anyone A-B'd an S2 Mira vs. a Standard Mira?

I used to have a Mira, miss that guitar, 'nuff said about that. From the recordings / demos I've heard online, the S2 Mira sounds the most fun.

The coil taps sound better than what I remember my Mira sounding like - I was underwhelmed with it at the time I got rid of it, because I found the taps on my SE Custom 24 to be more useful, especially the bridge pickup.

So has anyone played them back to back?

(PS I understand that there would be differences 24 vs 22 frets, etc., just looking for overall impressions vs., especially w.r.t. split tones)

I'm still waiting on one to make it to the State of Arizona. There aren't any here yet. After that I will be able to do this comparison. But we're always the last ones to get anything it seems.

I have played a S2 Mira and it was very satisfying. Can't comment on the other Mira as I've never played one.

I'm hoping they are nicer than the Mira X in feel and sound. I wasn't at all impressed with the couple of those that I've played. But that seafoam green S2 is calling my name.

I currently own a 2011 Mira and had a chance to play the S2 mira when they were first released at Sweetwater Sound. I had my Mira with me and ran them side by side through a bogner shiva, and a 65amps ventura. The S2 is a darker sounding guitar. I also noticed it having less sustain and acoustic resonance than the original.

Besides that the S2 is a much different guitar than the stock Mira. You get different tuners, a different neck profile (mine is a pattern neck), different pickups, cheaper pots, and a different bridge tailpiece. Overall for the savings, you are still getting an excellent guitar though, but it doesn't compete with the original Mira. For the price it felt like a great "studio" model.

If you have a chance to still pick up a used Mira it will still be money better spent. That is my .02

I like my s2 mira so much that i am planning to get the core mira to complete the mira family with 24 frets. I guess the resonance/sustain thing has something to do with body thickness isn't it? The darker sound probably due to the pickups i guess. I cant be sure as i do not have the core mira now. Great to get more views here before parting with $1900 for a core mira.

I haven't played them back to back, but I was highly impressed with the first S2 Mira that recently came through my store. It felt extremely solid for the price and it sounded great, the coil tap made for a few very usable tone options. What I really liked was the first guy that picked it up bought it! There isn't anything, that I'm aware of, on the market in that price range that delivers like an S2.
