As some of my friends here know, I had open-heart surgery a little more than 2 1/2 weeks ago. Seven arterial bypasses. That's a LOT.

There was plenty of followup care after leaving the hospital (I was there for 6 days). I was very strict with myself to follow every single doc's order, every single day, including the exercise, the breathing stuff, whatever. If it hurt, well, so be it. I was determined that this recovery would go according to plan. They originally told me it'd be 4-6 weeks to resume most activities.

But today I got better news!

My surgeon cleared me for pretty much normal life, with the only restriction being that I can't lift more than 20 pounds for a few weeks. That's incredible after this short a recovery period!

I can play the guitar again. I can go into the studio again! I'm still moving slower than usual, but WTF, it's going well.

I'm tha happiest person you can imagine!

I have to give a shout out to the crack team at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan. While this place is known for its cardiac team, the whole thing was an amazing experience above and beyond anything I've ever seen; they're a well-oiled machine that runs perfectly. Their level of patient care was awesome.

Glad to hear you doing fine! :top:

That's awesome news Les! I knew you had something done, but didn't realize the extent of it...the universe is a much more interesting place with you in it, and it should now have you for much longer!

BTW with that 20-lb rule, good thing you're not a Les Paul man ;)

You greedy, showin' off bastid!!! Most people get by with one or two bypasses, some have to stretch it to three or four, and some over-achievers get five. But that's not good enough for you, is it?? No, gotta go big - "Gimme six - no, SEVEN!!! SEVEN IS WHAT I WANT!!!! I'll show them!!! Who's an underachiever now, Mr. Thompson*?"

(* - Les's 8th grade algebra teacher, who was never satisfied.)

Glad to hear you're on the mend, brother! Keep doing whatcher sposedta! It's more fun talking about you in the present tense. Well, and being able to talk to you without one of these.

I'm the seventh bypass of the seventh son.

Actually, they make the choice of how many bypasses when you're unconscious, but I do like the ouija board decor on that guitar. Too bad it's not a PRS!

As a special extra, they took the Slawson cutoff and cut off my Slawson.
