I play mostly rock but I like the idea of one in my collection ...thiughts...are they nice??

VERY !!! :)

Except now they cost a bit more ...

(I had to figure what a "MIC Hollowbody was" ...Made in China or Hollowbody SE ) ... Get used to it . More quality guitars (and many different brands) are "MIC"

What are you gonna do, when they are " MIV " ? o_O

Just got done playing my SE Hollowbody II - absolutely love it. I play it as much as my core PRSs.

Check out Boscoe France, he lives his.

There’s a factory in Venice?!

Don’t forget QIM (Qc’d in Maryland)

This is my current pile o' PRSes as posted in the family pics thread... as you can see it includes one S2 (Vela) and one SE (Hollowbody Standard) - everything else is a Core guitar:

So what's my point? Well, this picture took a good hour to stage. You see, I currently only keep four stands around my workstation, so of the ten guitars pictured here, only four are out and to hand on any given day. And on pretty much any day since picking up my SE Hollowbody Standard in a trade about two months ago, this "MIC" guitar has been taking up one of those four guitar stands. Which isn't to say that I feel the excellent design realized in the perfectly machined competence of the SE Hollowbody's assembly can really stand up to a detailed comparison with the artful finesse in a core build, but I'm enjoying the SE because despite that, it's a great guitar in it's own right. IMO, the SE Hollowbody Standard performs way above its price point; great playing, great sounding, and pretty to boot (especially once you add some PRS amber-black lampshades)...

Well ... Not Exactly ! ;)

"MIV" ? Made in Vietnam !

A small Asian country the US was intent in "bombing back to the stone age" back in the 60's ... produces nice guitars for Harley Benton

Very nice cotton Polo shirts for Eddie Bauer (wearing one, as I type this)

Made the tires my Subaru has been rolling on for the last several years ...

As a Purchasing Manager/ Supply Chain Manager/ Contract Specialist /Buyer ... I have actually been to China on behalf of Stanley Tool ... exporting Amurrican jobs in pursuit of higher corporate profits ...

"Low Cost Countries" (LCC) are forever evolving ... PRS from Korea to Indonesia ... I'm betting will wind up in Vietnam before it is all over ....

That’s not absolute assurance. But I’m not complaining. When the 2016 SEs were coming out, I heard that the pups were more like the Core and they had the signature instead of that big SE on the head. I told my dealer that I wanted the first one he could get his mitts on. Unless the one he brought me was unscrupulously removed from a reject pile by his supplier (which is what I still think happened) some big issues slipped by. There was no capacitor on the tone pot, so I had two volumes, and the bridge had a horrible zinging noise that I couldn’t adjust out. I happened to be heading to Ocean City MD and was going to be driving past the factory, so I set up to have it checked out and to take a tour. The #2 dude under Paul met me personally, took possession of the guitar and led me and the gathered group on a tour. When the tour was over, I got it back and he told me that he personally set it up for me. Impressed. I still made mods on it, including a different capacitor, but you can’t diss their customer care.

What pickups did you decide on?
I can’t speak for him, but for a PAF tone I went with a Duncan ‘59 at the neck. For some more modern vibe, I paired it with a Duncan Custom Custom at the bridge. Great combination. When in single and combined they give me a fantastic Strat. For an old Les Paul I solo the neck in humbucking.

[edit - I got overzealous to respond - mine isn’t MIC - but the info still stands]

Interesting. That was the exact combo I put in my SE Custom 22 a few years ago.

I like my MIC HB Standard a LOT and it gets more play than some of my core models. When I got it I assumed I would switch out the pickups, but I haven't. There's something a bit magical going on with this guitar that I don't fully understand, but it's one of those rare instruments that has something special going on. I think it's just a really good design that somehow, has a peculiar synchronicity with the combination of materials, construction and electronics that accidentally ended up being better than it was intended to be.

I also have a Core HB Spruce, which is a super guitar that I'll never get rid of, but I did switch the Archtop pickups for a set of Benedetto B-6's. It's awesome. But, while the MIC HB Standard is clearly a 'lesser' (i.e. laminate rather than solid carved wood, import pickups and electronics) guitar, it's not lesser when it's being played. It's playability is perfect and the sound is very distinctive; beautiful, it has it's own voice and can kind of do anything sonically. It's a very impressive instrument. Maybe I got a good one?

Love mine. I only have 2 guitars. SE hollowbody 2 piezo was my first PRS. A year later I convinced myself I needed a single coil guitar and picked up a Vela Semi hollow. I was playing the vela more when I first got it. Now I probably play the SE more because when I play amp less, which is often i like the SE better. I'll never get rid of either.

I like my SE Hollowbody. I recently had to have the pickup switch replaced when it stopped working. My only real complaint is I can feel the inlays while I'm playing. It is a bit annoying. My first thought was that the inlays were sticking out but now I'm thinking they are recessed. Not sure what to do about them being recessed.
