Interesting demo. I liked the Line6 in comparison more than I thought I would. The Eventide was my favorite, and is the one I usually use, though they demoed the rotating speaker with the very worst preset in the box. I also thought the Backstar sounded very warm and nice, not at all what I expected. The rest were decent, but not to my taste.

The Line 6 (phaser setting) and the Blackstar sounded like they had the most personality to me, which is a bummer 'cause I wanted to like both the Mooer and Eventide going in.

It's easy to dismiss the Line6 stuff because you see it everywhere and it isn't expensive. But I gotta say that pedal sounds good!

I had one of the big green delay pedals when they first came out, and what I didn't really care for was how the controls felt and the lack of a display so I could remember which preset was on which footswitch, But it did sound good.

They didn't use the best sounding presets on the Eventide box, it really is a better sounding pedal than what they showed. Eventide created a bunch of presets for it that are head scratchers, but some are absolutely fantastic.

They're doing good things at Blackstar, I have to say.

Blackstar make great distortion pedal and I still have their valve boost pedal which is great for my Tube amps when I need that extra "Oomph".

For modulation, I use TC electronics G-system for my main rig and Nova-system for my smaller rig. They are both great, especially when use as the master to control the whole system.

There's a handful of Line 6 stuff that is killer. Watching rig run downs I see that their stuff everywhere.

I'm the biggest fan of Eventide stuff for sound sculpting and studio work. and the H3000 and Eclipse have some alright presets... But generally speaking, what is it about these manufacturers and their presets? For the most part everything sucks!

On one hand I completely understand that they're designed to show off the depth of the units capabilities and that more useable results can be had by programing your own, but come on! I think that for some dudes who aren't that into programming stuff get turned off right away because every modulated delay or phaser program has too much... Everything going on! It's especially apparent in multi-effects boxes.

I grew up with digital processors, in fact my first distortion "pedal" was a Yamaha SPX 50G, so I've spent my whole life editing pages in a menu from a tiny LCD screen, so I'm not afraid or a technophobe at all... But I'll never understand why the engineers gotta use every esoteric feature in presets. Yeah, it's cool that your phaser can do exponential wave forms... but just use the f@cking triangle wave and keep the regeneration low so people don't think that's all the box does!

Well, I'm with you 100% - though the box does have some very nice presets, gorgeous even, it's also got a crapload of HUH?!.

What I do is roll my own programs, and also edit the existing presets and save them, so it winds up being a few things I think are good, that can then be further tweaked from there to fit a track.

Then again, I do know some players and studio guys who create stuff I can't imagine working with, but they make it sound good, even great when all is said and done. So there's that -- maybe my imagination is too pedestrian or something. ;)
