Who has recommendations for in-the-case guitar humidifiers? Some products are designed to keep instruments at "50% relative humidity". Is this recommended for PRS instruments? I see products that require a sponge soaking recharge every two weeks to chemical packs that last 8 months. Who's used what and how has it worked? Thank you!

Personally, I think most of those are overkill. If your house doesn't get too dry, your guitars will be fine.

Acoustics, otoh, need a bit of humidity help, from time to time...

A dampit can only raise the humidity while the humidipak will raise or lower it. In the cigar world the humidipak is the way to go. I use them to calibrate hygrometers for use in incubators and they are spot on. I have actually gone to humidifying the entire house since it is healthier for us as well as the instruments to not be breathing air that is 10-30% humidity that becomes pretty common in the frozen north in the winter and even in the summer when the A/C is pumping.

I live in the Idaho mountains, and 4 months after moving here from CA, my Martin acoustic suffered a top split. I just ordered some humidipaks for experimentation. My PSi are worth a few bucks.

Just don't forget to change them on schedule.

ViperDoc, I found that using a room humidifier instead of in-case works very well even when the guitars are in cases (the wood in cases is hygroscopic anyway). I use the steam kind that releases no dust into the room. This avoids the problem of water dripping into the guitar inside a case.

I use the Planet Waves suspended humidifier system mostly with my Acoustics, but I have a Damp-It also that came with a Gibson J-15 that I bought used.I prefer the Planet Waves sponge system, but you do have to check the sponge every 3-4 days and recharge it with Distilled water only during the winter months.
I do nothing with my electrics except keep them in the case.Never had any issues.I also use a room humidifier that seems to keep the living area in the 50% range .Venta-Sonic,a good unit, but hard to find replacement filters unless you go online.

They will work very well with any acoustics you have. Just change them when they become stiff.
I don't think they are necessary for an electric, but they won't do any harm.
