#95 was a delightful evening to start the year off, despite the below freezing temps, we had an over booked evening with mostly folks passing through on their way back home , some very good artists. Everyone was very good about time and we were able to get two late comers in with full sets. ( I always try to build in a bit of cushion , but some folks just don't want to get off the stage)

It is always a great joy that out of towners find their way to our little Cafe' .
Thankfully the write ups and word of mouth have spread through the community , and those that travel spread the word . I gave them all hand colored flyers to take home as a memory .

The new amp worked great the Boss was VERY happy with it as were the artists. Very rich and clear, the added tweeter and Surround sound is a trip through the PA.

She commented " James.. You spoil the Artists! " I just replied I'm always trying to raise our game up a notch , my goal is to be the best Open Mic around, and have happy Artists and Audience.

Two brothers were in town visiting Mom , their harmonies were better than the Everly brothers .. scary good. One brother records the other doesn't ... I told them all YOU NEED TO RECORD TOGETHER!!!!!! I had 3 other artists with CD's out comment on them so ....

During post sound check chats Mom asks me if I play .... I reply " Occasionaly .. mostly just sound checks" The Boss chimes in ... " Oh I wish he'd play more ..he's very humble and really good , and makes BEAUTIFUL guitars... " Uh oh .. busted ... Oh please show me ... she was pleasently surprised ...

well while the boys are going back to college ... Mom is coming back ... Made my night .. as sweet as a magnolia blossom ...

Way cool , the T shirts arrived a day early .. in time for tommorow's show ..happy camper .. they look GREAT!

The Boss liked the Host design * my new avatar * so I'll have a few of those made up in color and greyscale.

#96 was a great show , full roster, packed house and finished on time . I gave a few of the shirts away to my favorite artists , along with the Boss .

Everybody loved them. A few folks asked about them and I told them there will be more .. all in limited runs , each with different graphics.
I'm getting with the boss to review the designs and made a deal , I'll do the designs , and do them at cost , and she can add whatever profit she wants on. We are looking at Mugs and other logo'd merch as well .

The new amp is really working well , I accidently ran the 1st half of the show with out turning the PA channel up for the amp ( I'd turn them down after sound check) The amp sounds so full nobody noticed !

After 96 weeks of saying NO PEDALS allowed I decided to put a dedicated board together and the foot controller for the amp.

I did a quick demo for folks before we got started and offered them all the option . NONE bit .. Bravo ! One of the regulars who has been booked commented " While I won't use it tonight I appreciate the options and your efforts, and will in the future "
Another local recording engineer /artists with several cd's out agreed .. He's been booked before , and has watch the evolution of the system .. His rating for the new setup " Deep and lush , great job!"

One of our longtime regulars, staunch acoustic traditionalist and luthier came over , after the show .. " man you really had it dialed in tonight " I told him it was the new rig , he runs an old Fishman . He loved it , I told him .. Pick it up ... ( he's 75) WOW it's SO light!

The Boss is really pleased at the consistent packed house and level of talent we now have , and she doesn't have to pay a band ..
I'm happy that with a lot of hard work , I've turned it into the top grossing night consistently .

I love telling new to venue bands (with a BIG ego) when they get a bit much and ask .. Do you play ? I smile and reply
Every week .. sold out crowd ..and I have the gig for Life , ... let's see how you do ...

We had a delightful show with local artist Jennifer Jess.. just keys and vocals .. the voice of an angel.
She and her BF commented on how great the sound was , the SFX amp made the keys and vocals sound immense .. She had a pre amp that handled her mic and keys then into the house amp and then PA .... I'm REALLY loving this little amp.

The boss is SO happy with how successful things are going offered to pay me again, I reiterated a polite no , and suggested to just invest it in upgrades. ( cables, floor monitors, stands)

She may have the voice of an angel, but without Saint Greywolf, she would not have wings (at least not at that venue)! Big kudos again for what you are doing in your community!!

Thankfully the roads are dry .. it was 12F this morning .. so as they saying goes .. The Show Must Go On!

I'm bringing my little spot heater for the stage at there are exit doors on both sides ... .

Banged up my left foot, so I'm limping like quasimodo, I plan on just parking myself on the side of the stage where I can reach the amp controls and sit all night after setup.

Of course it may be a very quiet night .. fine by me...

Sorry about your foot! Try and stay warm. Hopefully no new “vintage checking” on anyone’s guitars.

Below freezing temps and storm warnings made for a light night, I played a 45 minute opening set to staff ,only 3 musicians and a poet showed up, I let them perform as long as they wanted to .. we were still finished by 9 got home safe .. whew!

Tommorow nights artist is a friend I've sat in with before, he asked if his new trio could practice at my place ... No problem . .. set them all up , the drummer used my Alesis E kit and loved it , the triggering had low lag . I played a bit of conga's but mostly stayed out of the way. It was big fun.

His bass needed a tuner replaced, so he's picking up the part for me to install ( I showed him how but ..you know ) I'm lending him one of the ones I built .
