Long time lurker, first time poster who wanted to share his story. Played a SE Custom 24 in a Guitar Center about a month ago. Really liked how it played and decided if I was going to own a PRS, i was gonna go big or go home. Well, after surfing Reverb for a few hours that night, I ended up buying a 2009 Custom natural top with moon inlays and HFS/Vintage Bass pickups.

A few days after the Custom 24 arrived, I was in Sam Ash buying guitar strings, and I saw a SE Custom 24 Charcoal burst hanging behind the counter. Took it for a test drive, and took it home.

Last weekend I treated myself to this SE 245 I found the local Craigslist for a steal.

I don't think I'm prepared for this rabbit hole I jumped into lol.

Somebody said screw it, give me the red and blue pill! Congratulations and yes be afraid very afraid...

That natural sure is hot!
Thanks, I had always wanted a CU24 w/moon inlays ever since I was a teen and saw Daniel Johns from Silverchair rock out on one. Then as the years went by, I noticed other musicians I was into such as Adam Gontier, and the guys from Theory of a Deadman, and so forth were playing them as well.

I currently have the CU24 strung up with 11-49's in standard tuning, and it feels great, and even better when I drop tune the low E. I'm on the fence if I want to experiment with pickups on this one, but I'm definitely going to be removing the rotary switch, and installing a 3 way switch.

The SE CU24 is also strung with 11-49's but tuned flat. I may try other tunings as well. I'm thinking about throwing a Seymour Duncan TB-4/Jazz set in this one.

The SE 245 is strung up with 11-52's and currently in drop B# tuning. I have a set of Mojotone 59's w/ nickel covers & A4 mags that I going to be installed in this baby.

Welcome to the forum. I wish you & your new acquisitions many, many hours of musical bliss.

But dude, you’re going to have to learn how to post pics

Solid choices!

I don't blame you on the rotary. It's not for me either. There are guys on here that dig it. I'm torn myself on the hfs/vb. If you swap pickups on the core and go with PRS I can't say enough great things about the 59/09. 57/08 is pretty high regarded too. I'd say in a poll those two would be tops.

I've had jb/jazz in more guitars than I can count. I had them in my se 30th cu24 floyd for a while. Sounded great! That guitar now has DW tomahawks in it to stem off a DW CE purchase. I thought the SDs were great and still do, but these DW are phenomenal. Smile every time I play.

That Eriza Verde is one hot color. Not sure I could pull it off myself but it's sweet! Maybe someday...

I recently picked up an S2 Vela semi-hollow. What an excellent guitar I stupidly over looked for too long that would add some good spice to your mix. You'll be glad you did.

Welcome to the Rabbit Hole @Jbyrd78 !!! Here I thought I had gone overboard buying my first 3 PRS over the course of 5 months this year! You certainly topped me on that!!! Congrats on some great scores, and cheers to many many more!!!! I already have my next one picked out as well, a Vella Semi Hollow!

Good for you!
You figured out that it’s best not to fight it.:p:D

I looked at and thought about the 57/08's, is the bridge pickup spaced to fit a tremolo bridge?
From what I've read a 57/08 in the neck & 59/09 in the bridge is the way to go. However, I don't know how I'm feeling with the looks of the 59/09, or if it would even fit in my CU 24. The other thing I thought doing is pulling the ceramic mag off my HFS pup and putting a A4 mag in.

I looked at those DW pups online last nite, Mojotone makes them correct? They sounded pretty good. How are they clean wise and what not?
As far as the JB/Jazz set, I've been reading that set is the gold standard in PRS's when it comes to aftermarket swap outs. How is that set in comparison to the HFS/Vintage bass set?
