Good P90 suggestions

No shortage of options out there for P90's. Duncan Antiquities are a popular choice as are Fralin, Bare Knuckle, and Mojotone. At the risk of being ostracized as a blasphemer, you could also spring for a Gibson P90 Soapbar.

Just curious.. to the Soapbar lovers : Has any body put a staple pickup in the neck ( ala 54 LP ) I'm seriously considering it as that combo is what turned me on to P90's 40 years ago . Lollar and Duncan make them , Seymours is a bit hotter and more $$ as it's custom shop but the stock PRS soapbars ( at least on mine) are Duncans so may go that route

To my way of thinking, you can't go wrong with Lollar, Seymour or Duncan. They're all slightly different flavors.

I wish I could send you my original '65 SG Special so you could hear what an original P-90 sounds like. But I can't, the guitar is in LA with my son.

However, to my way of thinking, that original P-90 tone was The Great Starting Point.

The Duncan Antiquities come closest (so far, but the caveat is that I've not tried them all in person with my own amps). However, the others sound wonderful, too. I have no axe to grind. All are worthy!

I have a 66 SG special with p90's , now Lollars , I'm in the process of re-skinning it with a Curly Koa top and Claro Walnut back

Another option : This Koa build has DiMArzio VP90 / P90 Tone Zone , and a TV Jones Supertron bridge. All are Humbuckers and can be tapped , for those who prefer a less noisy and more versatile tone , albeit not true

P90

Any suggestions for noiseless or hum canceling? I've seen some that will hum cancel when paired with another p90 but this guitar has the humbucker in the bridge. Would that combo hum cancel too since the humbucker does that anyway?

DiMArzio VP90 / P90 Tone Zone , and a TV Jones Supertron and all the Filtertron series all hum canceling, Lindy Fralin makes a great one that is more Authentic sounding, and Duncan makes a P90 stack . That said , after a week with my McSoapy I'm very surprised the PRS/Duncan Antiquities are amazingly NOT noisy , even when I overdrive the heck out of them , that's a first for true P90's in my experiece

The Kinman P90’s are noiseless, and sound like P90’s are supposed to. Killer pickups.

I dig the Lindy Fralin Vintage P90s. I can’t find “vintage” on his site, but I’m sure it’s a certain % underwound. They’re very responsive to emails too, if you have any questions. Good luck with the search!
