So I'm trying to figure out if my current GAS state is a result of actually wanting a different tone or just being "a collector" and/or too much wine whilst browsing the internet.

I am looking at an SE 277 semihollow, an SE Paul Allender (hey, I like bats!), and a Brazzy McKorina.

They all offer something different - I have a Mike Mushok Baritone, but the 277 SH offers up soapbar pups and semi-hollow; the Paul Allender offers up Active EMG pups (if I go for that version); and the McKorina offers up a Korina body+neck with Brazzy board.

They are all appealing, but I can't say I can just pick them all up and not sweat the financial details.

They are all at somewhat different pricepoints, but I think they are all valid options.

Opinions? Options? Other options? Bueller? Should I just switch to Scotch?

Crack open another bottle of a nice red, and take another look at the McKorina o_O
Yeah, I was starting to lean that way...core models just resonate with me a bit more...(though I really like my SE ZM and SE 24-7). Gah. Why can't PRS just make one line of great guitars at one relative price point, instead of a great range of excellent-value-for-price guitars from next-to-nuthin to "dragon"? The SEs are great guitars, but the core are better (but more expensive). And AP even a bit more appealing. and PS well worth it, apparently, if you can afford it.

I got a 28" baritone from another company, and I have to say, I love me some baritone. Get the baritone! Of course, now I want a 30" scale baritone, so that'd have be either yet another company or a Private Stock...

I've been feeling the GAS for a McKorina like Dave's has, but then I spotted an S2 Vela in McCarty Tobacco Burst (which I like better than mine in Vintage Mahogany) but it also has a stoptail bridge. And in my point of view, the less moving parts something has, then it equates to less points of failure.

But if I wait long enough, the feeling may go away...

Scotch is getting surprisingly expensive, and when you start chasing the limited release and rare stuff, it gets even worse than guitar buying (and just as spendy!)

So buy the baritone and a quality but not-hard-to-find 12 year something-or-other single malt and you'll be golden. :)

I've been on an Irish kick lately. I'd go for the McKorina, a bottle of Red Breast (my current fav), and a red wig for the Mrs. But that's just me :D

I get the OP's point. I am ready to order a PS and have most of the details and the quote. My wife, who wants me to get it, asked me to wait a couple of months to get a bit more in reserve in the bank, just in case something from Murphy's Law comes around.

I have a funny feeling that Murphy is just waiting for me to place the order and then show his ugly self. I've waited this long, so a couple more months isn't a big deal. (It really is to me, but my wife has great common sense and understanding, so I know she is right.)

This is a beautiful statement.

If I listened to my wife, who is also always right (just ask her), I would only own one cheap guitar.

This is me too. Well, to an extent. She doesn't see why I need 10 when I barely touch 1!

My wife just made me buy a Singlecut because she liked the color. Of course she really wanted me to sell all my guitars to buy a PS that she REALLY liked.

And I have made a selection. Order placed, hope to see it by the weekend.

There was some mild logic and a bunch of emotion put into the decision process. I considered that one of the choices was likely to get more and more difficult to obtain in the next few years (Brazzy McKorina), another would have continued reasonable availability on the used market (Allender), while the third was going to be available readily for some time both new and used (277 SH).

I also let the fates help me decide - after a few days one of the options went away (I was looking at used or open box items for all three considerations), and today I had some help from co-workers who wandered into my office, saw a few guitars in Browser windows on my monitor, and they all said "that one on the left has a really nice color!".

I'll post pics in a NGD thread when it arrives...

So the guitar is on the way. A Brazzy McKorina Soapy, from Dave's Guitars. Or is that supposed to be Brazzy McSoapy Korina? I forget our nickname for this...

While it is on the way, I'm trying to figure out the color name. The listed color doesn't correlate with what I see (and I like what I see!). I know Dave's did a bunch of these in off-beat colors, does anyone have a list of the original choices?

The listing says Sapphire Sunburst (which I do not believe is a PRS color, because it doesn't seem to show up in any Google results for PRS guitars except the dealer's), so if anything it would be Sapphire Smokeburst, but there is another McKorina at Dave's that looks more like what I would expect for that color.

I was thinking it could be Black and Blue Matteo, but maybe it is a Sapphire Smokeburst that was left out in the sun?

I should be able to figure it out from the MODCAT when it arrives, but until then, I like to ponder...

Any ideas?

Here is a photo linked from the dealer (as mentioned, Dave's Guitars, great to deal with!) - the link may not last forever, so if need be I can upload to Photobucket a copy I grabbed:

The only idea I have is that I need to buy one! Nice score!
