Garage Band Frustration With iPad

So a month back I bought a new iPad Air and put Garage Band on it (paid for the full version) and I also have JamUp Pro and Bias on there as well.
Only Garage Band though has built in drum kits I believe that you can play along with.

What I do is select the rock drum kit and set it up for 120 BPM, then I switch over to the guitar amp area and pick an amp and set it up the way I want it to sound.
I then hit the record button and the drums only play like 8 bars or so then they stop, but I can keep playing the guitar though while it records.
What am I doing wrong here?

I want it to record for as long as I want, but I want the drums to keep playing too for as long as I am recording.
If I can get this down then I will add in the Kingfisher bass later on.

I can do all this with my Zoom R24 unit, a mic, and one of my real amps, but I wanted to try this with the software too.
Any ideas what is going on here?

You have to go to the track view by selecting the icon that looks like a dot/dash on 1st line, and dash/dot on 2nd, long dash on bottom. Then click the track data (the drum track) and it should pop up a menu on top. One of the options is Loop. That will loop the drum pattern you have.

Looking at it now in drum view where I drag the kick drum, cymbals etc, I do not see the the dot dash thing with iPad.

highlight, and Apple "R" that sh!t.
Not sure what that means Sergio, I am new to the world of IOS.

This morning after a good nights sleep I took a look again and also found a video from a few years back where the guy talks about making a loop.
Michael, I finally found the area you mentioned to get into the track view, and I had been in there in the past but forgot how to get in.
He mentions doing a long press on it to get the menu for the loop to come up, but since mine is a newer app, I had to double tap the track and then it popped up.
Hopefully I will be able to create a song later today, but I am not sure if I also have bass amps in the collection, may have to buy those like I did the multiple amps for this app.

By the way I had mentioned in my other iPad/Jamup Pro thread I was using the JamUp plug.
I ended up buying a much better one that connects to the Lightening port on the side of the iPad, and it does not make noise like the JamUp one did when it rotates in the 1/8" headphone input where it had plugged into.
I ended up getting the IK Multimedia iRig PRO, much better interface IMO.

He is using a PRS SE singlecut too, but not sure which model.

Looks like you found the answer that you are looking for, but I usually affect the record length by clicking on the '+' icon in the timescale (the bar with all the numbers in it, not sure what it's officially called). Once you click on that plus change the length to automatic. I don't recall needing to loop the drums when recording if you do this, but maybe you do.

I give up, may have to head to Guitar Center sometime where they gives lessons on this stuff.
I created the drum loop as per the video showed.
When I go and select my metal amp to use and hit record, the drums fade quite after 8 bars :D
I set it up just the way the guy showed in his video, and my loop will not run more than a few seconds when I hit the record button while playing the guitar.
This should be so simple to do, but I am missing something.

Taking a lunch break, and I am going to try it your way.
I already found that setting for automatic and saved the file, will come back to it and see if that way works.

Still a no go.
I tried it your way on automatic, and when I go and plug in my guitar and hit record, only a few bars of the drums play.
Very frustrated at this time, maybe I should stick to using the Zoom R24 as it has drum tracks and can record my actual amp with a Shure 57 mic.
Would have liked to have gotten this app to work since I shelled out $$$ for it.

That's okay, I'm new to the world of reading thread titles... I didn't make the connection that it could be different since it's for the iPad.

Can't you highlight the drum track and repeat it?

I do not think you can highlight it with a tablet device.
What I just did though was go in manually since I could not get loop to work correctly was to set it up for 120 bars which is a good old longtime.
That worked, and I was able to record around two or three minutes with the 408 and the drum tracks.
But when I went to add in my Kingfisher bass Garage Band does not have any bass amps :(
So I just choose a clean Fender amp and the bass sounded OK, but when I hit record it overwrote everything I had just done with the 408, I thought it would add it to the drum and 408 tracks, but I am mistaken.
More than likely I do not know what the frak I am doing, and too frustrated to continue.

Don't you just highlight the track by touching the region? No matter since you figured out how to change the length... wish I had an iPad to be able to help you out more, but the whole bass recording over your guitar track is probably 'cause you didn't add a new, separate track for bass?

This version of Garage Band is so good it's even built in the unreliability of drummers. Hell my iPad's Smart Drums just asked if it can crash on my couch for a few days because it's girlfriend kicked him out. The problem is his girlfriend is the Smart Keys so this could get dicey.

I don't use the iPad much anymore, but I wish you a quick and frustration free (or relatively at least) solution to your issue.

I have to say, compared to GB on a Mac, the iPad version is a quirky piece of turd. I've been playing around with it for a few days and thought I'd be able to help a bit. I think I'm starting to feel the same frustrations as Cory. I've got an Apogee Jam, and at least I can say it's a pretty impressive interface. I'll keep plugging around a bit with Garage Band and hopefully can share something helpful.

one thing I have learned - trying to describe the icons in the app after a few drinks is probably not a good idea. I read my post above, and I'm not sure I could follow it sober. Oh well, live & learn!
