Honestly, I thought ND looked very good on the O and D lines. Michigan's skill players seemed to be the difference. Except for that foolish turnover in the end zone by Gardner. It was a pretty good game.
Agreed, Shawn. Rich Rodriquez recruited Gardner to run his zone-spread. Gardner was the #1 rated dual-threat coming out of high school, but Denard Robinson was such a sensation that Gardner was used as a backup in his first year, then a wide receiver his second. He's so adaptable that he fit right in when the coach changed, as Hoke and Borges are running more of a pro style offense.
It's good to see him getting to be the QB at last, as he's really a great athlete. More importantly, because I follow Michigan football, I can honestly say that he's a very fine young person. This is a kid from the inner city of Detroit, who traveled to a suburb on the other side of town every day for high school, so he could play for a coach he related to.
He graduated UM in three years -- no small feat for a guy who had to deal with a football practice schedule -- and is currently in grad school in Social Work.
