So I was at a local store this weekend and they had a fanned fret guitar. I asked to play it and got a green light!

I looked at it with a small amount of inner fear, hoping not to suck trying to play this thing. To my surprise it was very easy to adapt to it. Chords and scales with a fair amount of ease. The only thing that stood out was a fair amount of reach with scales on the sixth string and my pinky.

I would be open to getting one of these if I found a deal on a PRS.

Which local store? I've always been curious, as well.

How do the strings and tone respond to bends? That is my biggest apprehension about fanned frets. I am afraid they would go out of tune with each bend.

I didn’t explicitly try this with any of the fan frets I tried (three so far), but really don’t think it is a problem. The fret angle will make a bit of a difference in the tune, but I bend by ear so just stop when I get to the level I want to reach. The string does come back to tune.

I tried one from a certain S brand a while back. Super comfortable to play. I would definitely be interested if PRS made a production model with fanned frets.
