In 1998, I paid a visit to Joe Knaggs and Paul Smith and took some wood billets with me. I had these made into Custom 24s. I’m fairly confident these are the first of their kind. They are not private stocks, and therefore are “cores”. Well known today, PRS does not allow customers to supply their own wood, but back in the day I had quite a number built from woods I supplied and usually, they were species they had yet to use.

In all seriousness, I think this was the start of the trend we're seeing today across almost all the electric guitar manufacturers using wood with much more character.

(Who remembers what a scandal there was "here" about the "inferior" woods used on the original Modern Eagles...? My how times have changed.)

The matching on that burl maple top is mesmerizing! I LOVE a one piece top, but a piece like this is where a matched top makes me say gimme gimme gimme!! Thanks for sharing!!!

I agree MW. One piecers can be cool, but I prefer a nice mirror. I’m also a big fan of natural maple that has that carmel/amber coloration like that burl.
