First PRS, Seeking Advice: Special or Studio

The beauty of this choice is that you really can't go wrong.
This surely is the best part of my predicament, and I take solace in it.

Both are great.
And this is the toughest part. I want both but only have enough fun vouchers for one.

I have looked at the MEV, but for whatever reason this guitar just doesn’t speak to me (but this is another one that I have had no opportunity to play).

I have re-watched both demo videos. From what I am hearing (and this is the hardest part to put into words) the Special has a mellower, sweeter sound. And the Studio is punchier and sharper. For those who have played both, does this meet your experiences?

Also, thanks for all who have provided their thoughts and experiences. Much appreciated.

I haven’t played a studio, but the SSH permits a more laid back sound if you want. But it has a lot of versatility. The MEV might surprise you if you try one out

Ok, after lots of deliberation and listening to the PRS demos 75k times.. I decided to pick up a Special. I found a good deal, and in my preferred color no less, and grabbed it. It’s en route now, should arrive tomorrow or Friday. I can post some pictures once it arrives.

Just wanted to thank everyone who chimed in again. I appreciate it. It was helpful to hear the experiences of folks who have actually been hands on with both.

Awesome!

Well, it arrived yesterday afternoon and I got to spend about an hour playing around with it. First impressions are very good. That neck. Just awesome. I haven’t played without some hand strain in a long time (I’ve had arthritis in my hands since I was 12, so I have nearly always dealt with some hand pain while playing). The neck seems to be the perfect width and depth for my hands, which is a very pleasant surprise.

The 58/15s sound fantastic. Very articulate and great string separation. I have been a single coil player since I was a kid, and have never actually owned humbuckers, so this has been another very pleasant surprise. I am also shocked at how big a difference the scale length made, coming from Strats. The Special is just so effortless to play, which I attribute to the neck and the scale length. It was really a total joy.

I plan to spend a lot more time with it this weekend, as there is a lot for me to learn with this thing. So many options, so many sounds. Really excited to get to explore it all more. I will post some pictures soon. In addition to all this other great stuff, it also looks amazing.

Give a few weeks to ensure its not just the 'Honeymoon Phase' and I'm sure you'll come to realise that it is a very 'Special' guitar and for some, the ONLY guitar they'll ever truly want/need.

Welcome to the 'Special' Club!!!

This is mine...
