Hey all! After much deliberation, I finally pulled the trigger on a 2017 Custom 24! Arrived today, and man, what a beauty :)

Anyway, there was some strangeness going on with this particular model on the Sweetwater webpage. The guitar was listed as "Blood Orange Smokburst" but was most definitely just "Blood Orange". Also, this particular guitar has an ebony fretboard as opposed to the more common rosewood. Also has all nickel hardware, not the hybrid nickel/gold. Guitar is a 10-Top, verified by "10" on headstock and hang tag. Was built on 9/29/17 - and appears to have the new Gen III Trem etc.

I just figured it was an error on Sweetwaters part, but the model number is different than most other Blood Orange finished Custom 24's listed elsewhere.

Hoping someone can help decode the model number and/or color code, or perhaps give me some insight on this particular guitar. Was this a Sweetwater Spec'd guitar perhaps?

Anyway, I can't post pictures as a new member, but take my word for it - it's most certainly a 10-Top in Blood Orange, and NOT Blood Orange Smokeburst.

Model as listed at Sweetwater AND the hang tag that arrived with the guitar below...

Thanks all, regardless of the specifics, the guitar is beautiful and I'm SO happy to finally have my hands on one of these guitars!!

Model: Custom 22/24
Top Wood: Maple
Frets: 24
Top Spec: Figured Maple
Top Grade: Ten Top
Neck Wood: Mahogany
Neck Carve: Pattern/Thin (Wide/Thin)
Fingerboard Wood: Gaboon Ebony
Inlay: Could not find Inlay '6' - 6 isn't in the current data set, but I'm pretty sure it's the current standard bird inlays.
Bridge: Could not find Bridge '3' - 3 isn't in the current data set, but I suspect 3 means Gen 3.
Color: Could not find Color 'OU' - Blood orange isn't listed in the data set. May be a new colour.
Hardware: Nickel
Treble Pickup: 250 - Interesting. The code for the 58/15s in my McCarty are N5_5V. Are your pickups nickel covered or open coil?
Middle Pickup: none
Bass Pickup: 250 - See above.
Electronics: 5-Way Bladeswitch

My apologies, I should've mentioned that I've seen that info already - found a link to that site which provides those specs. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to have been updated in a while. I'm mainly curious about the color code "OU". I know we can't discuss prices, but I will say it was a bit less expensive than other 10 top Blood Orange finishes. I just assumed that was due to the nickel hardware only, and not the hybrid.

EDIT - Perhaps you're right, might be a new color. Strangely, all the other Blood Orange finished guitars show "BO" for color code, as you'd expect. As for pickups, they're 58/15, open coil - just like you'd expect.

I made a mistake...

N5_5V is 85/15s, which is what you have.

N6_6M is 58/15s.

I mixed the codes up when switching back and forth between screens.

Nickel hardware is standard. The hybrid stuff is usually only seen on Artist or above.

Your guitar look like this?

Note, the guitar above has some unplated brass, which is now standard on nickel hardware.

Hybrid hardware takes it a step further, and is usually artist grade or above;

So many amazing finishes, but blood orange is so cool, especially on a Santana

That may in fact be my exact guitar - photo looks exactly like the one I have saved from Sweetwater. I was happy to find it, as I wanted Blood Orange and like the black controls and all nickel hardware. Ebony fret board is a nice change as well. Was just confused on why Sweetwater considered it different than the other 10-Top Blood Orange guitars.

Also, yes, you're right 85/15 pickups.

Beautiful guitar, I'm starting to understand why they're so highly thought of.

What site did you use to get all this info? That’s pretty cool and will be helpful.

Any idea how receptive PRS factory would be if I called to inquire about the color code on my guitar? Suppose I'll give it a whirl on Tuesday and see - Would really like to know the official name for "OU" color code!

Saweet! Love the flame in that natural finish and the mahogany neck has aged beautifully.

A 94 may not have the modcat. I don't remember when they started using them but it was around that time. Probably a few years later. You can still look in the cavities. They put some information in them that can give you some clues. It's a Cu22 10 top as you know, in natural. The PRSH signature was added by the previous owner. He likely attended a meet and greet and had PRSH sign it. As a 94 it probably has Dragon 1 pups which are amazing IMO. You can look on the back of the pups, there should be a sticker telling you the pup type.

For the OP, that color is gorgeous. I see more blood than orange. Great guitar!

I would have to agree, dragon 1s are very nice pickups and worth having in your arsenal!

Thank you!! I looked at pups this is Dragon Bass and Treble and cavities have signature "ONA 16/3/94 " .
Could guitars of these years be similar to " Private stock " because at those times there were no custom shop private stock .

Not in the sense that they are unique. They probably make a few hundred of them exactly like that one. They made about 5,000 guitars that year (Set neck and CE), so that's about 20 guitars a day. Yours is a popular model in the day so I wouldn't call is a pseudo PS.
