Hello all, first posting here. I have some questions about PRS necks, mainly wide thin vs the current pattern thin. Forgive me if this has been discussed here before, I didn't find what I was looking for in a seach.

Here's the deal....I haven't owned a PRS in a while. I had a CE24 with the wide thin neck previously. I just bought a 408 which was sold as having a pattern thin neck. It indicates it on the hang tag as well. When I first got it I immediately noticed how much fatter depth wise it felt than I was expecting based on my previous wide thin neck.

Today I had a chance to play two PRS with both a wide thin and wide fat necks. My 408 neck definitely feels closer to the wide fat.

Are the pattern thin necks beefier depth wise than the old wide thins? The neck measurements on the PRS site certainly doesn't lead me to believe so. I honestly suspect that my 408's hang tag is possibly incorrect and my guitar actually has a pattern neck, not a pattern thin. Not sure what to make of it, but there's nothing "thin" about this neck.

I tried calling PRS, thought maybe they could verify their specs with the serial number....closed until Monday.

Neck measurements are here:

The only other clues are the comments above the stats...

"The "Pattern Thin" neck is an updated version of PRS’s traditional Wide Thin neck."

How long since you had the CE? And have you been playing thin necked guitars since?

It can be hard to compare to a memory.

Hi, yes...thanks. I looked there already, as indicated in my 4th paragraph. I really have no reliable way to measure my neck to compare it to those measurements. I was looking for hands on experience from anyone who's played both and can actually verify if the pattern thin is actually deeper.

Its been a few years...but I only player slimmer necked guitars. The CE24, an Ibanez, and 60's slim Gibson necks. This 408 neck feels huge. Like I mentioned I played a few older PRS today wt and wf....the 408 feels like the wf, which is why I think its pattern and not pattern thin as marked on the hang tag.

i think you can check the serial number, modcat or something, search forum for link

Thanks, found the modcat decoder. Everything matches up...its definitely a pattern thin. Feels bigger though to me. :dontknow: Maybe the 24 fret models are slimmer than the 22's.

So....tell me about the Pattern Regular necks and the Grissom. Are they narrower? I've not had an opportunity to try any of those.
