I have a set that were supposedly an R&D set that Paul sent to an artist. Take with a grain of salt, I suppose, that's just what the fellow I bought them from told me, but he told me that after I'd already agreed to buy them, so I don't know what the value would've been in making it up. They are not engraved, FWIW.
The bridge pickup sounds divine in the guitar they're currently in, an SE Akesson, the neck pickup is a little murky sounding but I think that has much more to do with the guitar than the pickup. Part of me wants to swap them into something different, perhaps a more balanced guitar, but another part of me feels like they've become an essential part of that guitar. I think the thing to do would be get a used core 594 and swap them in, to really hear what they can do in all their glory. And I would probably get another 57/08 bridge pickup and use the 58/15 from the 594 to go back in the Akesson.
So whoever wants to convince my wife of this plan, is welcome to do so!

Sounds to me you got your story ready.
No, they were not.
I had a Double and Single Cut 57/08 Limited (from the original run, which were supposed to be wound with vintage Gibson wire PRS found) and they were NOT engraved.
I also received a set of satin & gold 57/08s (from a former PRS Elf) that I put into my 1999 BRW McBrazzy. Also NOT engraved.
My McBrazzy with mixed hardware 57/08s
The engraving came a few years later...
I am 100% POSITIVE of this...

The first 57/08 guitars did not have the engraving?

Well, Considering I had #2 if the run of 57/08 McCarty's (the Blueberry one pictured above) and #11 of the McCarty SCs (also pictured above), and neither had any engraving, my guess is you simply forgot...
It -was- back in 2008, after all...
Hell, I have trouble remembering what I had for lunch yesterday...

Must be. Because I remember getting the pups from MA Pete and he said (which is what I wanted) okay you got it back to original now. I guess he meant I didn't get the new pups with the engraving. I thought it was the other way around, hmm. I just thought I remembering seeing the pics on BAM with that first run of guitars with the engravings.
