Yep, I'm a 22-fret, classic and bevel carve, pattern regular to pattern thin, PRS loving guy. There's just no replacement for doing the thing, playing or writing, to figure out your preferences. It feels amazing to finally know what home is. Thank you to everyone on the forum for providing wisdom along the way!
On a more detailed note, I think how you hold a guitar probably has a huge impact on your ergonomic preferences. I play in classical position, with a foot stool and the guitar in between my legs. It's how I got started, and I've always preferred that position for the comfort of my fretting arm and wrist. I definitely recommend trying it if you are having wrist issues. It's also great for thinner necks, since you have more flexibility on hand positions.
The trade-offs? It pushes the neck a little further away, and it puts more pressure on the other arm that holds the guitar's body. 24 fretters get just a little too far away for me and cause tension in my shoulder. Violin carves are also too prominent for my resting forearm, and the pressure get distracting. There are ways around some of those problems, but I finally decided that there were enough guitars out there that were perfect for me (e.g., my Fiore, S2s, NF3s, etc.), so why force it, you know?
