Finally decided to pursue a Core model...DGT as my sole guitar.

I've had up to six guitars at one point in my life (I'm 52, hobbyist player), but I've come to the point that I want ONE wonderful instrument to concentrate on and hone my chops on again. I played a lot in high school and college, then jobs/marriage/divorce/re-marriage/kids got in the way.

I've decided to start the hunt for a nice, used PRS DGT in either Goldtop or McCarty Tobacco. I'll be putting my Zach Myers and Fender Tele up for sale this weekend in prep to partially fund the DGT. I realize I can downsize my pedal board as well since I won't need a boost or compression if the tele is gone. It's nice to think I'll have the great tone from my Mesa Express and ONE guitar to work with. As a dad with two kids still in the house, I don't get a huge amount of playing time, so the little I do, I figured sh*t, might as well live for the day and spring for a great guitar.

I've read enough and watched enough videos to realize the DGT has the specs I like to make me happy. Even got the wife's blessings. Now to begin the search. Soon, I hope to post a NGD with a core model. And to think two years again I never gave PRS a second thought when looking at and playing guitars.

Congratulations on your decision! One thing however, I would not let go of your compressor, or boost.
While the tele does enjoy some goosing from a comp, the comp will help you as well doing other things with your DGT when it arrives. So will the boost. Unless you have ultra higher end effects, you will lose a lot for unloading those two pieces. You might want to at least wait until you have tried your new PRS with them before offing them.
ymmv.

I hope you find a really nice DGT that suits you. :)

It's good to be a man with a plan. Enjoy the research and enjoy the outcome even more.

(PS: if this is just a way to buy a new guitar and yet sound like a wise man, nice move!)

Great choice. I have been looking into DGT's as well. I am leaning towards Violin Amber Sunburst with a Maple Neck Artist Pack options. I have just not fully committed to the DGT without thinking how much I want another HBII. Enjoy the pursuit! I know you will love the DGT.

Great choice for a "sole" guitar! I've employed one fairly exclusively for the last couple years (and intermittently since they were released), and have come to realize they're pretty versatile and have excellent, traditional sounding pickups (perhaps the "best" splits, dare I say)! I have a '13 Gold Top that is just killer! Even as a recent devotee of the 594 model, I have to admit that if I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the DGT!!

Good choice. There's a reason the DGT is one of the most popular PRS guitars.

However, I'll bet a quarter that you'll end up wishing you had kept your ZM down the road....especially for the small amount of $$ you'll get for it...

Right on. Agreed, if there was a fire or theft or otherwise I was separated from my #1 Custom 22, A DGT would be the replacement.

Just got my DGT this week! You will not regret it one bit.

It's so surreal, because I have what I think are nice, decent guitars (my strat and tele) but I have never played anything this nice. It can do gristly blues, rock, clean jazzy grooves and more. I can't get over how light it is and how great the neck profile feels in my hand. I definitely understand the PRS mystique now, because this thing is unbelievable. I literally now have an instrument that INSPIRES me to play and come up with new stuff
