So, in preparation for tonight's band rehearsal, I have a lot of my gear here in the shop for an easy load out when I get off work. Had about a half hour before my first appointment was to come in so I started d*cking around with some things on the guitar. Didn't feel like breaking out my entire pedalboard and setting everything up, so I just used the fender footswitch. The drive Channel on the hot rod series amps gets no love from a lot of people. (Typically including myself). I hadn't used that dirty channel in years. But, surprisingly, when I just used it, I didn't hate it. I can't say that I 'loved' it, but there were some usable tones I was able to coax out of it. Perhaps I'll actually start plugging that thing in at rehearsals and playing out for some extra tonal variety. Who knows .

"You can tell he doesn't use the amp a lot. Kinda dusty, wouldn't you say?"

"Gives it a vintage vibe. And he did say, 'dirty channel'."

"I dunno, man. Both channels would be dirty, then. I always get distracted by that kinda thing."

"You're an OCD curmudgeon."

"Nah, I'm just a curmudgeon."

I recently got new Hot Rod Deluxe simply because of it being a channel switcher. We don't have a soundman, and I was way past tired of people telling me they couldn't hear my solos. It's not my favorite sounding amp, but it's very usable, and the majority of peeps at our gigs wouldn't and couldn't care less.

Like I said in the original post, I haven't even plugged that channel switching pedal in for an easy couple of years. Tonight's rehearsal went back to my pedal board. I love the cleans on that thing and the Fender spring reverb. Pedals have been taking care of the rest of it for me. I was just messing around at work with it and plugged that channel pedal in. And was actually surprised that I found some of the tones pretty good once I fiddled with the knobs for a little bit. It was actually kind of refreshing.

I’m a channel switcher from way back. I just plain keep forgetting the pedalboard I built during Covid. Two channels on any of my amps makes me happy. I think I’ll try a single channel this Wednesday and try working the volume control.
